The Gomers will tell us they support the police but we just can't afford the contract without severe service reductions. The majority will have imposed an affordable contract and voters will see that even more police left without being replaced. We heard for years that thousands would apply once "real" recruiting started. Well, it did last year and we had less than 150 applicants, most of them rookies. Out of that, less than twenty were suitable for continued evaluation. Does anyone believe we will do better in recruiting and numbers of qualified applicants when we force a low-ball contract on the police? I don't think so. We need revenue, that is a big part of the problem, low per capita revenue. Stout told you this a long time ago. No VIB candidate will dare bring safety of the public and rising crime to the campaign trail. The GOBs will use the simple truth of rising crime and falling police to win it this year. It has less to do with affordability and a lot to do with complete and genuine support for our police officers.
Seems your blinded by your situation. There are plenty of qualified people who would take a $90,000 job if they could get it right out of college. Get real The reason there wasn't more applicants was uncertainty whether Vallejo was hiring.

Huh?? We advertised to hire 5, remember? My previous comments about Open Continuous for over two years was met with derision that it was not "real" hiring, just recruiting to establish a list of eligibles. So when we do in fact announce a "real" hiring, thousands did not apply like you folks insisted would happen. Get real yourself, there is a hostile anti-labor majority now that is keeping applicants away, that and a promise to hack the pay. Here again, I was told that plenty of "hungry" officers would apply even with hacked pay. Time will tell, I guess. I don't read or trust anything from VIB.

Part of the problem for the Gomers is that they believed their own propaganda. They call police fat, uneducated, beer bellied, slow and lazy. Nothing could be father from the truth. Policing is a dangerous job that requires a stable mentality, stable emotions, good physical strength and a good mind. Many of the college grads today are worthless. They selected majors that have little practical value in today's job market and are now working for minimum wages or close to it. You can't strap a gun on the average college grad and shove him into a police car. It won't work.

As long as other communities have more purchasing power than Vallejo, we will suck the hind tit for new police talent. Gomers may not like it but money talks and bullchit walks.

I can hardly wait for the orange and blue oozers to take the PB money for nothing more than raises and skyrocketing pension costs. I wonder how little dennis will defer that outrage.

aren't the pension costs fixed for those not newly hired? so where will the money come from to pay down that debt? you need revenue, whether you like it or not.

More revenue? Your union friendly majority past council's failed to generate the revenue they needed to match their promises in outrageous compensation. I wonder why Sunga, Ozzie, Willson, Bartee and Hannigan voted for raises knowing we already had a deficit (not enough revenue) to cover their promises?

LOL!

If the new council majority failed like the old, you would not be posting here. You are crying for revenue because you know that this council majority will never vote for a contract we could actually pay for.

Stay focused on the present. Presently, the VIB council majority are not protecting the interests of the citizens of Vallejo. They have made poor choices that directly affect our public safety, like the squandering of 3.5 million dollars of tax money from a measure they opposed on a participatory budgeting experiment at a time the City budget will be 5 million dollars short. Their anti labor attitude created a hostile labor negotiating environment where nothing will be conceded by the VPOA. The election of business friendly, labor friendly candidates to the City Council will end this charade. It has gone on far too long at the expense of the citizens.

so you endorse continued compensation cuts as an economic strategy? based on what staffing levels will they impose? do you know? it's easy for any ninny to keep parroting "affordable contracts, waak, affordable contract", fine but what staffing? 70 cops? 80? what? we will be at less than 80 by mid summer, where are all the new cops measure "a" promised? all you are doing is advocating for pay cuts without regard for staffing levels. how many police would you staff with? try to make some sense in your reply, instead of yelling about turds.

That rules Klimisch out on two counts.

Business friendly: He supported the Solano 360 project which will actually hurt existing nearby businesses and will lose 90 cents of every dollar of tax revenue to the County.

Labor friendly: Giving unions whatever raises they want whilst loosing revenue on poorly thought out revenue losers like the Solano 360 sets the stage for bankruptcy ..again.

LOL!

What compensation cuts would you be referring to? With increasing PERS costs and raises pummeling the city coffers it is laughable that anyone would suggest public safety unions have made real concessions.

...and no money will get any VIB candidate elected or re elected. It's a lose lose situation for VIB and a win win for anyone else.
