For a city like Vallejo with a high crime rate. Why does the city police department not issue concealed weapons permits?

You have to go through the sheriff. We stand a better chance of finding a four leaf clover growing out of Stephani Gomes fat azz than getting a permit around here.

But never the less if you have the time and commitment you can jump through all of the required hoops and give it a shot. Chances are you will be shot down., and around here you can take that literally.

Carrying a loaded, concealed gun is only a misdemeanor in Ca (PC 12025); if you have a concern about your safety don't hesitate to protect yourself.

You should only bare your arms if they are well muscled and there is no turkey or chicken waddle extending from under the armpit to the elbow.

BEAR: as in carrying a load...
.....the right to bear arms shall not be infringed upon...

I know I know the spell police, what difference does it make now....

But if one is quoting such an important piece of a sentence (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution, it should be quoted with the intended meaning and purpose.

I applaud all who are willing to go through the process that most likely will not have the desired result. Circumventing it not so much....
Why our politicians, even those that do not want the law abiding citizen to have access to a weapon at all (if they could, but there is still time), are allowed to have a permit and carry as I could challenge their mental clarity, more often than not.

But some misdemeanors carry heavy punishments. Is this one of those? I highly doubt you will just be cited and released. Officer discretion only goes so far. My motto when it comes to this is don't get caught. By that I mean take it very serious and hope you dont have to use it. But never pull a gun if you dont intend to use it. If your willing to put a bullet in someone youve just won half the battle.

This is a very good topic. Lets keep it going.

Never pull the gun for threats. Walk a very humble walk if thats the path you are going to take. Stay out of situations in which you may have to use it. For me its a matter of staying safe on a walk with my kids ect.. We have people in this city who will kill you for absolutely nothing.

Gee, maybe you can come up with accurate scenarios concerning carrying a loaded firearm without the protection of a permit. Im no pantdragger, what would happen to the average man if caught?

The last good walk I went on with my son we walked up on an armed robbery in progress. I myself was indeed unarmed that day. Had I been I would have done nothing different. We helped the victims, who were two young students from VHS. Called the cops and stayed with them through the process. I vowed that day to NEVER leave home unarmed. It could have been us. It might as well of been us. Like I said that was the the last time we enjoyed having our adventure on foot. Do I want to kill someone so I can walk with my kids?? Well I havent gone walking lately. But the answer is yes I would. So I dont go anymore. It makes sense to me.

I am as concerned about my safety as the next person. I know that many are getting carried away by dealing with shocking occurrences which assault us on a daily basis by suggesting forceful actions in case of. Nobody in their right mind wants to become a victim, but suggesting an illegal action as a solution is not the way.
How we may react should we ever be confronted by a criminal is anyone's guess. I most certainly will be unpredictable!!

With certainty we have many in our city who have prior experience with weapons, may that be as former members of our military, our public safety or simple civilians who have decided to become educated and trained to protect the family from the criminal element. So I believe it is fair to say that many residents know how to handle a weapon and under what circumstances, without breaking the laws California has on the books. It is unfortunate that a law-abiding citizen's hands are bound here in CA when it comes to self defense on public property.

I would like to preface that I have never been convicted of a crime nor had any run-ins with law enforcement. Everything I am writing about will take into consideration that the person is a law-abiding individual without a prior record.

#1 It is "legal" to carry a loaded weapon on ones private property. Not on the sidewalk in front of the house, but behind your property lines.
That is about all that I know of that is legal if a person wishing to carry has no permit.
The best option we still have is to protect ourselves while inside our homes, take precautions that will not make you a victim and be vigilant while out in public.

#2 What would happen if stopped for carrying (openly)?

Hopefully your weapon would be covered and not openly displayed on your person. If in a situation where a law enforcer has stopped you and does find a loaded weapon on your person, you would most likely be relieved of it and possibly arrested depending on the circumstances. You will have a lot of explaining to do!

So how can we protect ourselves from those who intend to do us harm? First off I would suggest to not walk alone or with family in areas known to be hot spots.
Many carry a base ball bat, golf club, cane or other implement of defense while out and about. I know that every State has laws on the books about the legality of carrying such items for self defense. Check out what CA considers lawful.....
There simply is no match when an offender is willing to do you harm and does carry a weapon to do his evil deed.

Some preventive items:
Sure, crime can happen anywhere, but why take a chance?
Be proactive when shopping, have car key in hand when you leave the store and do not fumble through pockets and a purse while standing by your car, look around you and register who is near you or what type of car is parked next to you, if large and it is obstructing the view of your vehicle, wait until someone is walking near you and past your car,(a sincere smile does wonders!!)look into your car and when in it lock doors and keep windows closed. Make use of the panic button when confronted!

My wish to all is "STAY SAFE" and "FOLLOW THE LAW"!

If you will go to the code section I mentioned you will see the restrictions and consequences of a violation. You may have to explain why you are armed and you may even loose the weapon but unless you are a convicted felon and are merely carrying concealed the penalities are FAR less severe than if you were to be assaulted. It would probably surprise most people to learn how many citizens are armed, I know I wouldn't mess with ANYONE assuming they are not, but then again I am someone nobody has to worry about.

I've always been rather timid around firearms. the noise alone is worse than those dreaded boomboxes. LOL! Not to mention the environmental factors, lead, gunpowder etc. I choose a more green approach to my personal safety. When in Rome.... and I do, I employ the safety and aid of a large black. Not only are they environmentally friendly you need no permit. You don't even need a bill of sale these days. Try it for yourselves. Better that a guard dog. Even a salty one!

We don't need no stinkin' badges. You better be smarter than your adversaries and keep that weapon hidden. It's there as a LAST resort. It's the great equalizer that good honest citizens use for self preservation. This is Vallejo, after all.

If you are uncomfortable around guns, do not have experience and training with guns, I would advise against carrying one. The perp will most likely take it away from you and use it against you.

Well are city has gone to the dogs. Just a while ago there was a shooting on Humboldt St. I believe I have the right to walk down my own neighborhood for a stroll instead of going to the Water front for my exercise.
