Leaders should lead. COV majority stomps their petite little feet, holds their breath and then cries crockadile tears until they get their way. Sure, impose and take credit or blame.

No wonder Marti Brown is cutting and running to Sacramento. Word is out that imposed contract will trigger another wave of police leaving.

Many of them are old, tired, and embittered. Leaving might be a good thing for everyone.

You want more police to leave? We cannot keep up with attrition or staff to the approved number in the budget. Wonder what is causing the lack of interest to work PD here? There were supposed to be thousands of laid off cops lined up to work here. Remember that wail?

Old?, tired?, embittered? Sounds like a VIB meeting ;)

"we're coming for you"

Just a lot of hot air. You have employees with college degrees and specialized training that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. You impose working conditions that specify a 16 hour shift when necessary but no overtime. Then you specify that the employee can also be scheduled to work 7 days a week if needed.

Yea, that'll work.

Time for the Empress crowd to smoke some weed and slam down a few of those vibteenies.

Negotiation is only possible if all parties are willing to compromise. At the end of the day, Vallejo only has so much money in its coffers -- we can't continue to spend more than we take in. Also, we can't sustain champagne salaries & benefits on a beer budget.
If the unions don't understand this fundamental reality, the city might have to impose. It shouldn't be the first choice, but it might be necessary.
What you'd like to see is more cooperation on the part of unions -- some understanding that we all rise and fall together. While there is some cooperation, the police union mostly seems to take a greedy stance -- "do what you have to, we just want our money." The greedy ones need to go, they are toxic.

Do you choose roads or do you choose public safety? As you say, there is not enough money to go around.
