A lot of talk about the shepard field church being a cult. What are your thoughts. Are they a sprit fed church or a brain washed cult?

A cult is very subjective in its definition. However, a cult must have a authorian leader and will use god's word to get what he or she wants. An example would be jim jones and the jamestown massacre. He convinced all those followers that god wanted them to die and sadly they believe him. The church really believe in jim jones and they did everything he said. That's a cult

SF is just a new age church. They obviously know what to offer to draw big groups of kids in. Personally I am more on the conservative & traditional side. But hey even churches are all about money these days.

Why, do you ask? Is there something you observed or was told? If you want to make public a question like that why don't you offer a reason for asking such.

We are not part of any cult as a member I've been asked this a few times. I can't speak for the whole church but this is just my opinion: we want to worship in the way that we feel comfortable, some dance and sing, most just sing. The majority of our music and songs are not traditional but every once in a while we might sing a traditional song. The majority of us don't judge others based on their past. Our pastor doesnt hold back on problems in our world it's all discussed. We don't follow any type of program. If someone thinks that we are part of a cult I would be interested in knowing why you think that, but don't start bashing a church. The shepherds field placed in the top 20 in the state of Tennessee for baptist churches that lead people to Christ...

No bashing here. I wouldn't do that. I am do a relgious study paper on cult churches. A lot of talk yes talk has mentioned shepard field. So I was wanting feedback as to why shepardfield. This web site is not a source that I will use in my research but I am tring to get a feel what other may view as a cult.

I do not know about a cult, but I believe a church can spend its money helping less fortunate than spending thousands - millions- of dollars building a building. The "church" is NOT the building, it is the people and the way they share God's word and that is not just the Bible...that is feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the poor....think how much money Martin churches have spent on buildings and what they could have accomplished with that money doing other things!

Wasn't that church at one time called Southside Baptist Church before they moved into that building?

Is this why they have lost the leaders they use to have? Never heard why some of them left, maybe that's it.

Your definition of a cult is the exact same I would use to describe a church. An authorian leader that will use lies to get what he or she wants. Telling people that god wants them to do certain things or else something bad will happen. Perhaps Not as extreme as Jim Jones but still.

Most churches qualify as a cult. A cult has various levels where some people hold higher positions than others. Basically, not everyone is considered equal. Also, funds are collected and only people at the top can decide how the money is used. These people also have basic control over the actions of the group as a whole.

I used to be a wiccan and enjoyed being involved in a religion that was not a cult.

Well I am going to be optinistic and say that there are some leaders of church that do try to do God's will. Sadly, I know as well as yourself know this is not always the case. But I do worry about the extremist like a jim jones. And from what is going around the shepard field church is moving in a direction that is similar to that of jim jones. Maybe not reached the severe level yet but scary nevertheless

My lastest of information that I received was the preacher has told everyone that they needed to home school their children. according to my educational source this is true a lot of the kids that go to that church are being pulled out of public and are being home school at the preacher request.
