After tonights game the 3rd grade coach Brent should be ashamed. He let several kids leave that game crying and hurt because he would not play them. My son got to play and I was still ashamed of him. OMG and his brother and mother interfering was uncalled for. The parents who left with their children had every right and were justified. His brother should not be allowed to be near those kids. He was more concerned with winning than the kids.

Again, another post about over zealous coaches! At this age, it is about establishing a love of the game and basic fundamentals into these young children. Too many times, coaches start trying to act like they are NFL caliber coaches and it all becomes about winning with the teaching of the game become secondary. Coaches...it is time to grow up and, if you are not in it to benefit the kids and not your inflated ego, you should quit. This is a direct reflection upon the powers that be that allow the coaches to be chosen in the first place. And before it occurs, please do not tell me about winning is fun and only the strong survive. The parents pay money for their children to participate...period!

Thank you I fully agree this kind of crap is what causes kids to never play again. I know they coach for free but they also volunteer. But be sure his son has played almost every minute of every game and yes the child has a lil skill but I feel tonight the price to win was to high. I even saw 1 of the lil boys ask to play and was ignored by the coach that he is told to trust and respect. Futhermore Brent the head coach let his mother, brother, and sister in law yell at parents and said nothing to them.

Please volunteer and coach for free and do better.

I too saw a few boys who did not play ask and were ignored. And to volunteer I coached my child in soccer for years. No one is forced to coach but when you agree to do it you have to include everyones child.

My son plays for Brent and I too was not happy at how he handled the game tonight. How do you justify letting some boys play the whole game and yet letting some not play at all. This was not the first time he has not let everyone play either I dont believe. We all payed the same amount to see our kids play, drove the same distance and they ALL deserve to play period. Winning is fun byt not at the cost of hurt children...

You must be the bad coach or his family they are talking about.

My son has been at every practice and every game. We even waited hours at a game where the head coach was not there and to have him treat those boys this way for a win was uncalled for. He says he is a Christian yet those young men got hurt inside for nothing. Brent Davidson should be ashamed... I even heard 2 parents threat to never return their kids to the team.

parks & rec has nothing to do with youth league football. I dont have a child on the team, but if I have a problem with the coach I simply take the job next year. And if I'm not mistaking, the money you pay is for insurance & equipment not playing time. Once again I dont have a child in the league, this is merely an outside opinion. I do not agree with a coach mistreating a kid under any circumstances.

Your misinformed because they do have some involvement in all youth sports and as for the insurance, my son and many others have private insurance and their equipment is a joke. Half of it is broken or old as dirt yet we pay good money for our kids to play. All of which I could handle but our children being mistreated is not ok

Sign your kids up for soccer, offer your time as a volunteer coach and then do a better job if this is how you feel.

3rd graders do not even need to be playing football-even flag ball; their bodies are not ready for it.

Ok people my son was one of the players who did not play Monday night and even though I am still very mad at 2 of the coaches one of which my husband and I spoke with after the game. To go and make a thread like this is uncalled for let us parents whos kids were done wrong handle this in private. Thank you
ok with it

My son plays on the team also and I think the coaches are doing a good job. No he doesn't get to play as much as some of the other kids, but he doesn't work nearly has hard as some of the other kids either. He didn't get to play in the game Monday night either but he and all of the other kids have played in all the other games so far this season. My son doesn't ever pick up a football at home and I just don't have the time to work with him like some of the parents do with their kids. I guess this is why he isn't getting any better and some of the other kids are. It scares me when my son is out on the field because I'm afraid he's going to miss a block and get one of the other kids injured. If I was a coach I would feel horrible if I new the kid I had out there couldn't do what I needed him to and another kid got badly hurt. I don't think we will be playing football next year. Nothing to do with the coaches, my son just really isn't that into it.

My son also plays for the 3rd grade football team, and he doesn't get to play as much as some of the other kids. He's been playing sports since he was 4 years old, and we have left many games crying b/c he didnt get to play the position he wanted or he didnt get as much playing time as some of the other kids, but you know what I tell him? I tell him to "suck it up! that's life. you dont get anything handed to you, and if you want to play that position or get to play more, then you need to work harder. thats just how life works." i dont think its ever too early to teach our kids that. this is where the sense of intitlement in this country comes from. kids are taught that just b/c i'm alive, i deserve certain things. well, that's bull. just b/c you paid $ doesnt mean your kid has the "right" to play in every game. that's ridiculous. Nobody gets anything without earning it, and that's what i hope im teaching my son. and, no, i'm not family or even a friend of the coach, but i do respect him for the job he's doing. i know i couldnt do a better job. and, for those of you who believe that "at this age" they need to be learning the love of the game and fundamentals, at what age does it become about personal responsibility and teamwork? they arent babies anymore. every one of those boys won that game monday night. not just a few of them. and every one of them is going to get a beautiful trophy for an undefeated season-something most of them will never get a chance to be a part of again. shame on the coaches for wanting that for them.
and if your kid doesnt ever play football again, it's b/c he doesnt love the game. no 3rd grade coach is gonna deter someone from playing a game they love. and before you go and question someone's faith, you need to have a heart to heart with God, yourselves, b/c no one who has Christ's love in their hearts would say these things about a man who is taking time away from his family to help our kids, whether we agree with all of his decision or not. and PS. if you have the nerve to put someone's name on here, you should at least have the decency to put your own name on it as well. at this point, i'm ashamed to say i'm part of the same group as any of you people.

This is yet another example of why young children do not need organized, overly competitive team sports. The kids need play, and would enjoy plain pick-up games. I've often wondered how much of the younger team sports enthusiasm shown by parents is a subconscious need on their part to socialize and/or relive their youth through their kids.
I await the criticism.
