The Principle of Martin Middle School has banned Letterman Jackets, Team warm-up etc except on certain days. He states it is agianst Dress Code to wear such attire inside the building. The Dress Code allows it so long as the administration approves it.

I would be mad if I had spent $125 on a jacket my child couldn't wear in the building. If enough parents complain to Mr. Holmes and or Mr. Frazier maybe it will stop some of the ignorance that is takeing place with the leadership at MMS.

Bottom line is the local schools don't give a damn what the parents think anymore. You have a few parents that allow there kids to wear whatever they want and the only solution the school can come up with is to punish everyone. I was just reading about private schools. This is not a bad option really. It is a Ton of work to get started but once you get it rolling its not that bad. While I don't have the experience and/or time to do the actual work. I would be very interested in helping someone get this going. Only question is does this area have enough support to start something like this?

I considered founding a charter school here when I retired, but no, not a good idea. Martin has a long history of failed private school attempts. Some failures are easily explained, some are not. Keep in mind that public schools are paid by body count, so don't expect the school board or any other government body to be supportive of your efforts to interfere with their revenue stream.

A school is built to provide an education, not support a fashion show! You people should be worried about the educaton your child is receiving and not about the way they are dressed! Try telling your children that a solid education and growing up to become whatever they want is the primary purpose of school...not "Oh my! My parents feel as though their money was wasted!" If you are that happy about your child playing a sport or whatever it is, then throwing a childish fit isn't going to matter...be proud of their accmomplishments...you should feel no need to try and inform everyone else of there job well done!

Every kid doesn't get one because not every kid trys out for a sport. They are special. They practice, compete and represent the school as a whole...even the lazy kids. They EARN the right to wear them. But I guess you're another obama creten with your hand out.

I say quit worrying about the dress code n stop all the drugs and bullying going on. Everyone knows most of the teachers could give a rats ass. They rather talk down to straight A students then to punish the real peoblem kids. Its ashame.

No.....kids that wear a letterman jacket are not "special"! Also, the parents of kids that wear a letterman jacket are not "special" either!
They are athletic and good in sports, whereas other kids may be good in academics.

All students represent the school as a whole, not just the athletes!

Whining and crying on a public forum won't change anything. If you have a real concern or a real problem with the policy, speak to the administrator face to face. Like an adult. If you still aren't satisfied, speak to the board members and superintendent.

This solves nothing and only teaches your kids to be defiant, bitter, and catty. Act like an adult, be a good example, and follow through the proper channels to try to get a positive result. Who knows, there might even be a GOOD REASON, why the administrator put this in place. Believe it or not, I'm sure he didn't just sit around and think of the next best way to piss you all off.

The kids who have earned a jacket ARE special. No one said that kids can't be athletic and academic?? This mentality that the world is grooming is RIDICULOUS. Letter jackets have been around for ages! If a kid wants to wear a letter jacket, go out for a sport! If not, don't bi%@# cause someone else has one. Lifes not fair. Its time people realize it.

Your right fair comes around once a year!!! Waaaa it's not FAIR that there are rules. It's not FAIR that I can't convince Coach Holmes to let my spoiled child wear the letterman jacket I paid a $125 for. See how fair can work both ways lmao!!!!!

Is this a county policy. If not, it is wrong to single out one school on the dress code.
