I moved here recently and have been looking for a new vet. I called and got prices on annual exams and shots for my dogs and the prices with local vets are about twice what I was paying in my previous town. Any information is appreciated and I do not mind driving to neighboring towns for better prices.

Good luck. I had the same problem when I moved down here. I think the high prices are due to the act that many animals down here are neglected....so fewer customers to pay for the overhead of running the business. Just find a vet you like and pay for what you can.

When they get bad I usually just eat them.

Try the Trenton Animal Clinic. They are very good and have the best prices around! Been going there for years!

Tri County Animal Clinic in Mckenzie is half the price of the local vets.

I use Dr. Hooks. He and his staff are the best and I don't think there prices are too high. Remember...you get what you pay for!

I know when we took our small dog for shots everyone around here wanted over 75.00. Went to Ward's and it was 25.00.

A lot of places may be cheaper because you are only getting the shots. You aren't getting the physical, the office visit, fecal, or heart worm check, which are all very important in this area. And yes remember, you get what you pay for... I have heard horror stories of animals who go to these "cheaper" vets. Another good rule of thumb, if you cannot afford to provide the care an animal needs, you may be better off without one. They are living beings who deserve to be cared for!

They are living beings who deserve to be cared for! Thar is ridiculous. The vets here in Martin charge over $100 for the annual exam with stool and heartworm check and annual vaccinations. My previous vet, who was excellent, charged half that. The office in McKenzie charges $65. Paying a person $40 more than I have to when I own multiple pets is just dumb. I think that maybe you have never lived anywhere with more reasonable costs.

Martin and McKenzie are in two different counties! Have you taken into account the property tax difference, etc? There are a lot more variables than bottom-line dollar. I moved here from Brentwood TN. It is a LOT cheaper in this area compared to Williamson County. It's all relevant to the local area. Again, you get what you pay for...and Dr. Hooks is the most compassionate vet in the area.

I am not looking for compassion. i am looking for vaccinations and checkups. I am perfectly aware of the ridiculous property tax in this town. I own a home here.

And once again this site never ceases to amaze me. What started as advice on local vets turned into stupid sh*t by narrow-minded idiots who couldn't carry on a conversation with their dog!
