Hey :) The world we live in today can be a crazy and dangerous place so after much consideration, I have decided I want to own a gun. Does anyone know where I can take classes to obtain a permit? Also, is there a shooting range anywhere around here? Thanks so much!

Indoor range in Jackson and they also have classes. Outdoor range at Holly Fork outside Paris on Hwy 79. Classes also available at UTM.

I agree "Captain" but state law says carrying of concealed weapon without a permit issued by the department of safety is a crime. We should all be able to carry if we can pass a background check to purchase the gun. However we have allowed laws to be passed by politicians which do not allow total freedom of our Constitutional rights.

Check at Final Flight or Hills Hardware in Union City for the class. They also shoot at the UTM range in Tuesday nights when college is in session.

I am a combat vet and been a cop for a long time. I take all my business to final flight. They have a good staff. They have a shooting range, and will even let you shoot the gun before you buy it. Talk to Bill. He also is the one that gives the permit classes. I like hills hardware, but they are over priced and the guy that is in charge of the guns dept. is a dumbass. he has no background or professional training, and tries to tell everybody what they need and what they should and should not shoot. The best advice is get the gun that YOU want. find what is comfortable. the right make, model, caliber. and then, find what ammo your gun likes. you get what you pay for, so don't go and cheap out on a gun....if you are using it for home protection or self defense, do you really want the cheapest made gun you could find?....also ...stay away from Jamie Spaulding for permit classes...i cant even list all the things that are wrong with that .....

by the way....although i am a gun advocate, don't listen to Captain America ... ppl like that make it hard on the rest of us legal and law abiding citizens to own and purchase guns. do it the legal way. if you get caught, it could be your ass and some serious jail or even prison time...

As ling as u have no criminal record that's felony charges and misdemeanor charges that constitute a felony . Then u shouldn't have a problem getting a carry permit. U can't be convicted with any of those classes above

It is true that final flight has an awesome invetory but I was shopping for a circut judge, the carbine type. They were 87 dollars higher than walmart on that weapon. All I'm saying is just check around for different prices before you buy there.

Weakley County Sherrif's Office has classes the last Saturday of each month. My wife passed the class and has her permit. She did this a couple of years ago. I've had my permit almost since they came into being. I think everyone who is able to get a permit should get the permit and carry at all times. You may want to go see a movie some time.

Thanks everybody for the information! I should be able to get one. The only trouble I've ever gotten in was I got a speeding ticket once.

Daily Horoscope for May 18

Capricorn

You really have some great ideas today, Cap. The question is whether you dare to put them into action. If you're hesitant about this it's because you suspect that your plans and opinions are too off-beat or unconventional, but are you sure that's true? Discussing them with people you trust could reveal a very different picture and make you realize that you've got your finger on the pulse. Have the courage of your convictions!
