Toccoa approves downtown design 3-1

The Toccoa Record Progress in downtown Toccoa is continuing, and city commissioners took the next step last Monday in revitalizing the area.

Robert and Company is the firm charged with developing plans for the total makeover that is continuing in the downtown area, including the removal of canopies, demolition of the pedestrian mall, reopening of Doyle Street to through traffic and design of a "new look".

They wanted to make Downtown Toccoa the so called "MALL" or "Square" look like it did when my grandparents were 10, it has little mom and pop stores that barely kept any business before the demolition, The point of this was to attract tourist and to get people into the nostalgic mood, what a way to cut corners by just tearing stuff down and pocket an ass-load of surplus, great plan Toccoa, re-polishing that turd was asinine. How much money was invested in this again vs how much money it has brought back in return?

I can only assume you have not been downtown lately. We have several restaurants, retail stores, municipal offices, banks, a doctor's office and other professionals located in the down town district. We have won numerous awards regarding progress made. We have the Sage street market, and Cinema on Sage which both draw a huge crowd. The court house has been redone and a new historical district will be defined soon. This will allow for more funding for future projects. On most any day you will see people walking to and from work or for health, they like to be downtown. More houses have been and are being remodeled as we realize the value of older properties. We still have a long way to go but the progress has been great.
By the way great choice of words in your post there. Really matue one aren't ya?

<<< Touché.. However I hope to see this project bring fiscal wealth to the community instead of have it appreciate in sightseeing value as if were in a museum.
