Does anyone have information on the festival this year? An article I saw in the Home News said that the music was set up and finalized but they didn't say who was appearing. They try to alternate. One year the top band will be country for the adults, the next year rap or hip hop for the crackheads, blacks and kids. They usually have some bluegrass and some church choirs. Brooke Gaddy's dance studio sometimes puts on a show. They will have street rods and custom trucks to look at and Jesse's shop will have a motorcycle ride in and put on a shine and show of choppers. There will be clowns and entertainment. Lots of vendors of crafts and local goods. The Hispanics will be having Fiesta and street dancing to Mexican music. Pinky Marsh will be recruiting bull riders for his next rodeo. Mayor Deese will make a speech exhorting the citizens to take part in Marshville's decision making. Prior Gibson will be there to kiss your ass in return for your vote in November. Margaret will not be there since she will smuggling a chisel inside a cake to Denise in the jailhouse. All of the Marshville preachers will be there offering to cleanse you of your wicked ways by dunking you in a Galvanized tub borrowed from Carolina Hardware. The Marvegas Casino will be featuring quarter video slots and free laminating. HeBrews will be offering Boll Weevil brew.

My favorite part was about Pinky recruiting bull riders!!! I also liked the part about the free laminating.

Her grammar is not that good, no way, anyway she is usually at the trailer park at the beach. She is far too busy and living an exciting beach life to worry about Marshville anymore. Also that post contained lots of words with more than two syllables. Just could not be her.

Maybe she will sing at the Boll Weevil.

I agree with you! GK can't spell and her grammar is horrible. The trailer park is just where she needs to be.

Isn't the festival in the early fall, late September or early October? I saw in the HomeNews that Brenda mentioned it again this week. She must be on the planning committee. I've got a bone to pick with Brenda. I used one of her cake recipes and it turned out soft and mushy. I think she got a pudding recipe mixed up with a cake recipe.

I wish I could understand why this festival keeps getting worse each year. At one point it kept getting better year by year, then everyone quit caring or something. It's a shame. I take my kids every year, but my youngest is 8 now and soon she isn't going to have enough to do to bother going. I always enjoy the music at the end of the evening, but at this point that is about the only thing I care to go for. Have the people planning the festival tried coming up with ideas to expand any?

They have had more than their share of problems. It seems like when it is hot the craft people pack up their stuff and left early that year. The number of craft booths have dropped off a lot but the yard sale stuff does real well. The car show is about the only thing going on early and when those folks get their winner they leave so the number of people shopping and looking in the booths drops off considerably. Except people who tag along with the music groups and some Hispanics are the only ones walking around during the middle of the day but we don't sell much at all. They have had problems with music groups and other talent not showing up especially during the middle part of the day. One year the skateboard kids were sort of a problem. Jeff Coley tried to get all of the churches involved and that went well for several years but not many of them are still doing it. It is hard to get people to give up a Saturday to come work a booth anymore. We broke it down into 3 and 4 hour shifts and that worked for us.

What town leaders? Carl still came last year, but who knows if he will be the Emcee again? Also, Jeff is gone, a terrible loss to the community. There are not many people left in town who care anymore, they have either aged out or moved away. The ones who do "do" are getting burned out from there being too few "doers".

We need fresh blood and young people to get involved. Young people, with energy, step up to the plate and revive this town!
