We moved here over 10 yrs ago and have heard tails of the infamous Devils Den? Many have said they have swam there and others tell tails of its never ending depths. We have been told several times that we can go there with them and check it out but no one has ever come through. Is it real? Can we go there? Exactly where is it? Recently we were told of a new fence and an old cranky bull is the preventing factor to going there. If it is possible we would like to see the Infamous Devils Den!

I have been told that there is a fence around it. It is near Fordland.

I grew up in fordland and yes there is a Devils Den. but i seriously doubt anyone has ever swam in it. for one, they wouldnt be able to get out because the water is so far down in the hole. also it is nasty water so why would you even want to swim in it. it is on private property outside the city limits for fordland. its really cool if you ever get to go see it. like i said i have lived in fordland my whole life and i have only been there once. it very well be neverending. i know it has never dried up and they sent divers into it once but i dont think they ever saw the bottom.

It is real! I have been there a couple of times, firsth when I was a teenager in the 80's and then about 12-13 years ago. It is west of Fordland on PP highway 3-4 miles on the south side of the road in a patch of timber.

The Devils Den is absolutely real, I live about 2 miles away from it... but it is rather hard to find if you don't know where it is. You just start walking through the woods, and suddenly the ground falls out. There is a fence, but it is not much of a hindrance; as for a bull, I can't promise anything but I haven't been attacked yet! Good Luck!

Oh, and despite the "bottomless" legend, I would have to say that if it holds water, it is very, very likely to have a bottom LOL!
it is true

i have been there once. never again, it was so creepy. when i was there, no fence. you do not want to get to close to it, it is a large dangerous drop off. been told cars and everything else has been thrown in. no one seems to know just how deep it really is.

It's a large sinkhole and should be avoided by the general public, except to maybe be viewed from a distance. There's a stream & you can see water running through it. There's probably a very deep cave beneath it, and a cavern system. Not advisable to swim in it as the depth has not been determined. We know the owner.

I was just there not even two weeks ago and I did not see a bull. idk where exactly it is though my boyfriend took me. you can't swim there, theres no trespassing signs everywhere and idk if it's true but they say as soon as you jump the fence there's cameras on you and the cops are on their way cause it's dangerous, which is true I know of people getting stuck down there and almost not making it out

My grandparents lived only a few miles away from the Devil's Den and my grandmother told many stories about it and social gatherings that took place there in the 1920s and 1930s. I heard these stores for years growing up to the point of conjuring up mental pictures. I asked my father and he remembered seeing it in the 1950s one time but didn't recall where it was. Finally when I got to be 18 or 19 years old I decided I had to find it. That would have been in the early 1980s. I rounded up a couple of cousins after talking to some old timers in the area. My grandparents had already passed away. We did find it and I spent quite a bit of time there taking pictures. I think I went back about 10 times over the next 15 years or so. Some trips to Missouri would include a trip to the Devil's Den. I have not been back to see it since about 1998 and probably won't get to again but stories of the Devil's Den are part of the lore of the Ozarks. I would be very interested to know what year this sink hole caved in. I have seen other sink holes in Southern Webster County but nothing like this one.
