I am in search of any information of a murder that took place in marshfield some 20 years ago. I was in 1st grade when a child in my class lost his mother and other family memebers to his fathers deadly rampage. I cant remember a lot but am interested to know what took place as I have been told several different stories through out the years. I remember that we only lived 3 farms down from the family and played often with the oldest son who was in my class and his younger sister. So if anyone knows about this or knows where I might be able to find any information would be greatly appreciated.
Buckner -Schnick Murders

The murders to which you refer took place on September 25, 1987. Jim Schnick murdered his wife, Julie, who was 2.5 months pregnant, her brother, Steve Buckner, Steve's wife and their 4 sons. He then shot himself in the leg to make it look as if he was also an intended victim, and blamed the murders on Steve's eldest son, Kirk, age 14. Schnick's 2 children, who were asleep, were not harmed.
The murders took place early in the morning. Schnick killed Julie as she lay sleeping, then went to the Buckner farm, which adjoined his own farm. He went inside and again, killed the adults, and then the sleeping children. Kirk was outside, and tried to prevent the murders, but was too late. Schnick killed Kirk, then shot himself in the leg and positioned the gun so that it looked as if Kirk had done the killings.
Schnick was arrested for the murders, and after a trial process spanning several years, he was finally convicted and sentenced to death. He is currently still on Death Row in the State Prison at Jefferson City.

I was the first reporter on the scene of the Schnick murders that early morning. I saw Webster County, Missouri Sheriff Gene Fraker (now deceased) at the Buckner house. When I asked what happened, he told me "It appears we have a teenager who got up this morning and killed his entire family." It was that comment that almost immediately went on the Associated Press wire that branded the innocent 14-year old Kirk Buckner as the killer. He was buried with most believing he was the murderer. But his Uncle became a suspect within hours. I also happened to be at the Webster County courthouse when Jim Schnick was brought up the stairs to the Sheriff's office.

I know Shnick's surviving daughter. Out of respect I will not reveal her name but she was raised by her maternal grandparents and changed her last name to theirs. She is in her 20's, is married and lives in Springfield. She is a well adjusted, remarkable, beautiful young women. One of the sweetest people I've ever met. She was so young when it happened she doesn't remember most of the incident. If you check missouricasenet you will find that James Schnick appealed his death sentence, won , and was coverted to a life in prison without parole. I don't think she has ever had any contact with him.

I went to school with Kirk Buckner. He was a wonderful person and a great Math homework buddy. I am very glad the truth finally came out and his name was cleared. He was not that kind of person nor would he had ever done that to his family. He loved his family very much.

i would be grateful if anyone has any information on either a murder of a mother and daughter which happened in St Andrew's Road,Coulsdon, Surrey - in the 1980's - and also a man who called himself "Dr Davies" who again operated in the 1980's - initially rang the victim and then later broke in to victims house not sure what happened after that, thankfully - in the Epsom, Banstead, Chipstead area, Surrey, UK - there was coverage of him in "The Mirror" at the time apparently - would be great if anyone knows anything and can let me know.

Jimmy was my 2nd cousin and growing up Gary his brother was a nice guy but Jimmy was always different as was his Mom and Dad. His Grandmother passed before all this happen and thank God she did because she was Great Christian Lady and this would have killed her. His father was a real issue and I believe this is what happen to his Mind. They had nothing to do with their Grand Mother and his Mom was an only Child and they just stayed to themselves. He Should have died on Death Row, he has no family left

My family rented the house across the field from Schnick's in laws. I was 4 at the time but remember all that was going on. My sister and I played with the daughter quite often. I remember her Mom being so sweet & kind. My sister was very good friends with her. I remember going out checking cows with Mr. Schnick & his son & daughter..& him giving me a piggy back ride...It was so many years ago but still creeps me out to this day.....Knowing someone that was capable of such things. Just goes to show you, you really can't trust anyone.

If you all want to read something very interesting, find the book call NO JUSTICE, THE JIM SCHNICK STORY. After reading this book, you may have second thoughts if Jim was actually the murderer, or Steve Buckner, the Brother-in-Law. I found this book at the Greene County Library. I have always been close to the families invovled and a lot of it never made since, but this book kinda did. Wierd.
