I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Virgil Keaton as our new Mayor!

Also we would like to graciously thank our Previous Mayor Paul Farnsworth for his many years of service, you will be remembered.

I think that it's time for a change. Farnsworth has been in charge for a long. It may be a chance to let someone else bring some new ideas to the table to bring in some new business and return Fordland to it's former glory.

Lol It may be difficult to remember but their was a time that businesses flourished in this town. Lazy lee's was a popular hangout spot, it has a reputable auto parts store, the population was well over a thousand residents. And a full time police force. Not just during high traffic times so as to get more ticket revenue. Most of the stores on Main street were busy and the schools were top notch. It's odd that the city has fallen flat on it's face within the last twelve years, and that's how long Paul as bee mayor.

I think the new mayor should start with the police department, by bringing in a full time chief and move a officer to the schools. Then when you get a good police force businesses will come. People there now don't trust their city and that needs to be changed, show you care for the citizens

I agree! The fact of the matter is the city is broke, and cant afford a the salary for a full time chief, the school superintendent doesn't believe they need a school resource officer, therefore no work has been done or will be done to acquire the funding for an S.R.O. The city's residents pays absolutely no law enforcement tax and the police department is funded entirely by ticket revenue, and the occasional traffic and public safety grants, that are hard to come by. Especially with the government sequester going on at this time. The officers they do have don't make enough money to do the job they do or have the support from the community they need. Law enforcement costs money. Something they don't have.

Now that you have a new Mayor, things can go in a positive direction, if you replaced your council members also. The bottomline is to get more businesses in town, which in turn will bring in more sales tax revenue, which will give you some funds to operate your city. Wish you the best of luck!

Ok, we all saw the news broadcast about the vandalism and we all want to know what plans Mayor Keaton has for our town. Is he going to get rid of the convicted criminal working at city hall? Fix some roads? Hire an officer?

What is the plan, and no, I am not going to go sit in that stinky, humid and nasty room for the next city meeting.

P.S. We need a community news letter, or website with what our city is up to and events etc.

Unfortunately That costs money. Something the city doesn't have alot of right now. If you want to pay for all that police protection start handing over your money. Most officers don't work for free, police cars don't run on hopes and dreams, Everyone gripes about the weather but nobody does anything about it.

Virgil has so many plans for the city, but the aldermen and city clerk refuse to cooperate. They would rather lie and cheat the residents of the city of Fordland than see it actually show improvement for the first time in twelve years.

"Road Block" is like many of the people in our town (Sparta) and it's too bad they are out there just to complain and not make it a better place. We have too much of that ruining our town now. No one gets along here and no one will be businesslike enough to get anything positive done - just a whole lot of finger pointing and nothing getting done. Don't let that happen in your town or you will never move your town forward and will be stuck in a time warp like Sparta.

What are they lying to us about? And how are they cheating us? What could Virgil be doing that they are preventing? Can he or we get the Alderman and Clerk replaced?

Less talk about why we can't and more action when we can.

G & S Stainless Steel Plant, New, High School, New, Deadeye Pawn Shop, New, Mama's Burgers & Such, New, Knee Deep Antigues, New, Sparta Spirits, New, Town & Country Grocery Store and New, O'Reilly's.
Nope! Not much happening in Sparta!
Almost forgot New; 300,000 gallon Water Tower, coming soon along with a New, 3rd Well and infrastructure repair work!

It appears a lot of you don't know what all goes on at city hall that you are aware of do you? Did anyone realize that the mayor is nothing more then an icon for the city, and rarely makes little to any decision at all? He actually doesn't even get a vote for the most part unless absolutely needed or for a tie breaker. From talking to the city council and a lot of others that have been here for many many years, Fordland isn't doing so well. The new mayor can't even come in until after hours of city hall. What good does it do for a mayor that can't come in when the others are in as well?

Not to mention how sad Fordland's become with the ability to pay for anything. The ONLY business that is doing well would be Cooley's. The actually city and town can't even afford to pay to mow the park but every OTHER week. And with the rain and grass growing as it is this year, that's super pitiful and I've heard LOTS of complaints that it needs mowed more then every other week.

I'm not saying this new mayor is bad, but it's going to be rather hard for this town to change. He doesn't actually get a say in much that goes on. If any of you would read the "instruction manual" you would have known that he doesn't have a whole lot of power.

Look at your ordinances and all the fees the city charges businesses. You have to have businesses to bring in sales taxes to the city. But if you charges too many impact fees, why would they want to come? Citizens can form a committee, to research ways to get businesses to come. Get the people that love their town to get involved. Good luck!

I am amused by the number of people who complain on this forum, yet won't go to a city council meeting and voice their opinion. One person even refused because it was 'smelly' at the meeting. Fordland did not get in the shape it is in because of the actions of one man. That kind of thinking is ridiculous. Fordland is growing, maybe it is not growing fast enough for you, so you should move on. All you got to do is look at any of the census data and you can see it has grown. So we lost Lazy Lee's. Is it City Hall's fault that they did not pay their bills? Is it Paul Farnsworth's fault that it went under? No. Now a new store is coming in. More, much-needed revenue for Fordland. You hate the City Clerk because you say she is 'trying to run the city'. That's her job. Our new Mayor cannot be there all the time so somebody has to carry the load. I don't see a line of volunteers standing at City Hall every morning when I go to get my coffee to help out. But I see a long list of complainers on here. I enjoy our park. That lady that mows the grass does a good job. Yet I see kids from right here in Fordland breaking the playgroung equipment so that my grandson can't use it. Where are their parents? Why they are on here whining about City Hall. Our police force is doing their job. We don't have a full time police chief. But the job still gets done. Good for you Fordland Police. I am glad you are out there. I have heard some bad talk around town about the people at City Hall, mostly when I get my coffee, or when I go to the local diner for my breakfast. I don't know why anybody would want to work there if they knew that people without the guts to show up at a Council meeting, get on here and hide behind a fake name and mud-sling about them. So if you ever get tired of being a coward, and want to do something for Fordland instead of whining about everything, come to a City Council meeting and make a difference. I will save you a seat right next to me.
