Marshfield Town Meeting April 2010

What a TERRIBLE turnout at last night's Town Meeting!
And what is worse is the performance of the moderator, Jim Fitizgerald.
This is especially true with regard to the 'Greenway Way'. This issuue was NOT properly and fully vetted. Firtzgerald made the comment that people were just 'for or against spending the money' and so Kathryn Weber's Motion to Move the question was accepted - even though many people were still in line with various issues to discuss.
Well, the 'pro-spend' people had usage of lots of resources and media support and voters stayed home by the thousands.
Please, people, show up for Town Meeting tonight, Tuesday the 27th and Thursday, the 29th. One of those nights is when the Energy Services Contract Article is likely to come up.$7 MILLION in borrowing - JUST FOR BEGINNERS - to give to a corporation to lead us around and reap profits on basic building rehab and equipment relacement that our own personnel should be doing.

I completely agree about last night's shenanigans. How can so few people show up for such important issues?!Hope to see you there tonight, Tuesday, at 7 pm....

So, Jim Fitzgerald, the moderator, takes a Motion to vote on Reconsideration when someone gets up and says 'I didn't speak during the debate on the article - because I thought that it would pass.', BUT, someone wants to have an article reconsidered because OBVIOUS and IMPORTANT issues were not discussed - and they are denied the reconsideration vote. I guess that it depends on WHO is asking for reconsideration and whether the article/expenditure fits into the Insider Agenda. And how is it that the persons that are asking for reconsideration are supposed to know that somebody (In this case Kathryn Webers.) is going to make a Motion to Move the Question - and so jump into line ahead of her so that they have a chance to excercise their right to speak and give their perspective or opinons?

Thank you to the moderator at last night's town meeting. Doubt if he has time to read these type of forums, but just wanted it out there that many people appreciate his professionalism.
#5 Apr 27, 2010
If that's what you call professionalism....He's nothing short of a dictator.

Nothing will change until the entrenched are voted out. Fitzgerald was a groomed insider golden boy since wayyyy back before he was hand picked to become selectman. Could there be a better example than Jim Fitzgerald of he groomed insider? They are not free to act on their own good conscience. They do what they are told.
The best you can say about Matt McDonough is he may not even realize how pre programmed he really is. Either way, the mindless, reptilian (eat everything in sight) politics he represents is not healthy or sustainable.
Notice how the Forum folds just in the nick o time -yet again !! Last time was just before the special senate elections in January This time ,apparently, Whiteness agreed ahead of time not to back it up with his own forum.
Dinosaurs... Very clever in the short term.

Yes, the groomed insiders are very good - you might say professional at what they do.
It is not a town government of, by and for the People this way.
I am in favor of preserving the land in the area of the 'Park'. I just think that all of the issues and concerns must be heard and last night was THE night and the right time for them to be put out there for the most people to hear them and to have it all ON THE RECORD.
Would it REALLY have killed anyone to allow ten or fifteen minutes of comments and 'debate'?
Instead now you have created bad feelings - to say the least and turned off another bunch of voters from attending town meeting.
Alice F - if Matt gets elected - enjoy your CITY of Marshfield.

You don't need to be on the ATTACK with everyone who disagrees with you!
I do enjoy Marshfield and will continue to enjoy the town. Talk about turning off a bunch of voters! You must know how many people have been "turned off" by all the conspiracy/regime and now groomed insider talk!!!!!! For a multitude of reasons, there is fear that ultimately real estate values will drop significantly if certain people ever get elected. The possiblity is something to be seriously concerned about.

Many things to say about TM, but right now I'm wondering if you voted for the Ferry St. purchase (without knowing what the land and house will be used for)? Also did you stay late the first night and vote for the lime shed?
I can't believe the blatant disregard some voters had for the abutters' property values.
You know, people who fight for responsible spending are protecting property values too.

And to all,
I'm definitly voting for a conspiracy theory here!
I posted about Trane late one night. The next morning...Poof...Forum's down!

Pat put his forum back up temporarily.
Despite our differences I am grateful to him for that and for deciding not to participate in this latest slimey little tactic.

This town is WAY TOO BIG to even have "Town Meeting" -- everyting should be put on a ballot and voted on -- Give me a break -- just suppose EVERYONE in town decided to go to town meeting!! where would they put everyone??? anyone ever think about that?
#13 Apr 29, 2010
Just as a reference: I work in Hingham and they had 1,300 residents show up for town meeting! Compare that to Marshfield's paltry 300 at best, usually 100 people.
#14 Apr 29, 2010
There are very clear reasons why a smaller percentage of voters turn out for Marshfield town meeting vrs. Hingham. One very large reason is the obvious...the redundancy in questions and statements is intolerable. I all ready know what the response will be to that! Hingham has it's own problems too.

The single biggest factor driving down property values would be the urbanization of the town. And who is against urbanization? Its not the groomed dembot candidates.
There is no conspiracy theory. Ask Po'Tricia,(by PM) ask Mikey, ask Matt McDonough if they favor the state dembot mandate for urbanization through Ch.40B. They will look you in the eye and say nothing. The silence still is deafening - and telling
If he's groomed we're doomed ...Its a fact.
