Norwell: Committee recommends officials back green community initiative

The town of Norwell is considering becoming a Green Community to make it easier for the construction of alternative energy installations like solar and wind turbines.

However, Norwell does not have a wind turbine by-law and Energy Committee Chair Bob McMackin said the committee did not take that into consideration, when making their recommendation.

“We didn’t take that specifically into consideration. What we said about the turbines was that the study that we got the grant from, the engineering company The Cadmus Group, looked at the public land in Norwell and determined that none of the public land was suitable for a wind turbine.”

But McMackin said it is possible that the construction of wind turbines could be suitable on private land.

“There is other land in Norwell that may be suitable for a turbine, but the public land, based on the Cadmus study, wasn’t suitable,” McMackin said.
