In 2001, my husband and I purchased a retirement home in the Elysian Field community, thinking it was a small, quiet neighborhood. Since that time, the previous owners of the property next to mine was sold to a well know construction company in Marshall. It has been leased to the most extraordinary family. The consist of a man and his two sons, a wife who recently got out of prison and various visiters throughout the year. Up until this year, they did not own a lawn mower. They started out with 4 dogs, which soon grew to 7, but they did not take care of them or feed them. One of the half grown dogs died just over on his property line. I had to leave his a not to dispose of the body. After 3 weeks, and a letter from me to his landlord, he finally removed the dead carcass. He piles his garbage in the back of an old pick up truck for months before taking it away. He sends his kids out to climb up on the truck and try to throw the garbage baps on top. But, the most annoying thing of all is his ATV 4 wheelers. He has numerous ones. One, in particular is extremely loud. He and his sons ride them all hours of the day and night. They run them on our street, down the side of the highway, and around in circles for hours around their mobile home. This past weekend, they were out riding them at 1 a.m.
They were expecting company this weekend, so they finally took off the garbage and did a little mowing. The woman (who told me she was out of prison now and they weren't going to live like a bunch of "---" pigs anymore, backed her new SUV into the back of the pickup truck. She was cussing out one of the visitors when her husband came outside. She then laid into a verbal tirade against him. The husband then dropped his shorts to his knees and stuck him rear end in her window. He then turned around and pulled out a certain body part and wagged it at her. This was all done in their front yard in front of the children. She then peeled out of the yard as fast as she could, cussing them all out at the top of her lungs. This kind of stuff goes on all the time. Their home is an eyesore, but it has somewhat improved since the woman returned.
Do I have any rights as a citizen who innocently bought a nice log home in what was, seemingly, a nice neighborhood? It is 11:10 p.m. on Sunday night and I cannot sleep because they are over there riding 4 wheelers and setting off fireworks. My husband has to be up for work at 4:30 a.m. He will be lucky to get any rest at all.
We are concerned that if we do report these neighbors, they will retaliate. They are certainly the type of people who would do so. We mean them no personal harm. We just want them to be respectful of our neighbors. I cannot consider selling my home becuase we are not spring chickens and we really wanted this to be our last home. We are trying to clear land, cut down trees, landscape, make improvements. But we hate to sink a lot of money into a home next door to these people.
Please help.

I can really feel for you. Have you tried talking with the JP or local law enforcement and see what your rights are? I think I would definitely call the police and report them late at night for disturbing the peace or something. Heck, report them during the day also! Cant that be done without them knowing who reported it? Are you the only close neighbors or are there others? They definitely do not sound like the kind of family, I use that term loosely, that you would be able to talk to! It is ashamed that all it takes is 1 bad apple to ruin an otherwise wonderful peaceful home. I really hope your situation improves.

First I would try to communicate with them. If this dosen't work, I would get the police involved. It is their job and Iam sure they have delt with this type of issue before. Also, invest in a good watchdog. My German Shepard allows for me to sometimes even leave my door unlocked from time to time, giving me added security and safty.Good luck!

Please pray for us, tonight is a very hard night for us. Exactly 2 years and 1 month ago today our precious 25 year old son was MURDERED and the killer still walks free today. The pain in our hearts is worse 2 years later, it never seems to get better. We know who killed our son and how he was killed but there is not enough physical evidence for police to make an arrest YET. I pray that those who know what happened that night, God will make their hearts so heavy with guilt that they can't stand it anymore and will come forward. I'm sure they are just afraid, so I ask God to burden them with gilt and let them know it will be ok if they come forward.
I ask that everyone who reads this will pray this same prayer for us.

Thank you,

Chuck and Tammy
