What a shame! I attended 1st grade there as a student of Mrs. Neeley...please forgive me if the spelling is incorrect, and was a graduate of MHS in 1992. My mother told me of the loss last week. She lives at 1007 E. Houston. I am a Marine stationed in CA. While on Christmas leave 09' and each time since 1984, when I believe the doors closed, I looked at this dark structure and pondered why such a historic building was ever left in such disrepair. Why wasn't the building ever renevated for battered women and children, apartments for low or no income families, apartments for all that could make the rent payment, why only feeble attempts to renovate or find a buyer or preservation budget for such a recognizable Marshall landmark. No I am not Bill Moyer, just a saddened Marine that lists Marshall as his Home of Record. I have sounded off enough. We send our deepest condolences to all affected by this event.

I also recall that the Easter Lilies still bloom near the great oak tree on the upper play ground nearest E. Houston St. Hope the rest ya'll post cause my eyeballs are sweating recalling my younger years and the lack of regard someone had for the last standing school of its kind in our city.
