In over twenty years of military service, I have NEVER seen a gun "go off" accidentally. EVERY SINGLE TIME I've seen an unintentional discharge, there was always a negligent soldier's finger on the trigger. I've witnessed negligent discharges from the shotgun, M14, M16, M4, M1911, M9, M60, M240G, a 20MM Antiaircraft mount, an 81mm mortar, and even a Sidewinder air-to-air missile. I saw an M2 Fifty cal. fall out of a helicopter at 250 feet agl and not "go off." I have never seen an accidental discharge. Only negligent ones.
Yes, this is a tragedy. No, it's not an accident.

Unlike all you others that have no knowledge of the events that took place that fatefull day,nor have you heart, but rather would just rather stick BOTH feet in your mouth and talk alot of smack, this has been a horrible tragedy for both familys. The fact is,that this WAS an accident. Sadly,it happens more than people realize. Even as an MP in the U.S. Army, saftey is always an issue and is ALWAYS practiced no matter what your age or rank. All it takes is to become complacent and careless.Something your used to because you grew-up with it or whatever, eventually will turn and bite you. What you have to see here is,one 12 year old boys life is over and his family will grieve and miss him much so. Another 12 year old boys life that was just beginning, now has to live with this for the rest of his life. Being thoughtless and careless can happen VERBALLY too!
Well like I said I am from this town, knew both boys and family's. There is more that has gone on that most dont know. The boy has been released for 10 days till the next hearing, and the parents might be charged as well, because there was MORE.... THAN.... just one gun loaded. no key was hidden, to the cabinet. And the report from how he was shot, shows it was not from falling!
so no I am not putting my two feet in my mouth!
Yes it is sad on both parts, but again, a child has been lost. And another one life has been changed. So to the ones that are not from around here, dont know it all!

Guns are evil. They are of the devil. They must be eradicated off the face of the earth. Look what happened in England and Australia when guns became illegal to own. The U.S. should follow their lead. For I the Lord will smite the sinners.

Amen.

They did chose their tragedy. They were careless with a gun. My prayers are with the one that left the gun loaded and accessible, that is a lot to have on their conscience.

I am the mother of this little boy my name is Amanda Lincoln. I feel this was an accident but guns should never be let out where children can get to them. children are curious just like we were when we were kids my heart goes out to the little boy that was present when this happened. My son William will forever be missed. To all parents never leave guns out this could happen to anyone let this be a big lesson learned. GOD BLESS you all for your thougths, prayers, and comments.

God bless you and hold you in His arms as you face a life without your child. This is a very sad tragedy and you have a big, loving heart to even think that this may have been an accident. Good for you that you have given the other child the benefit of the doubt. I pray that you will find strength and comfort in The Lord and that He blesses you in many special ways with many special things. Your heart must be broken, but I commend you for getting on here and saying what you said. You are right...guns should NEVER be left out anywhere at any time! I just wish you all the best and will pray that your heart will somehow mend... someday. Thank you for being such a forgiving person! You are truly a blessing.

The same thing happened to a family friend of ours, back in the early 70's; a clap of thunder jolted a hi-powered rifle from it's resting place, causing it to discharge and killing the poor guy sitting on the chair watching TV. It happened out on Myrtlewood Drive. Nobody knew until later the next day because of the storm and rain; nothing was heard because of the thunder! I grew up, playing with this guy as a child. His family was mysified for days, even thinking he'd shot himself.
