I used to frequent the Texas BBQ King at Figueroa & Sunset/CCB when I worked in downtown L.A. Outstanding food and the peach cobbler is the best in the city. You could pick up the BBQ aroma two blocks away. If heaven has a smell...

Went to the Woodland Hills location today for lunch. Serice was slow. Meat was good. They only had salad and fries (under cooked) as sides. No beans, no slaw, no macaroni and cheese and no potato salad. Also, the soda had no carbination and they knew it and continued to serve it.

Just had lunch at the Woodland Hills location today. Soda was flat, upon telling the waiter, with no apology he remarked we could have water. I guess he knew it was flat when he served it. Then we went to order and were told the had only two sides.. fries or salad. Very disappointed I ordered fries rather than beans or potato salad which we wanted. After a long delay, one friends sandwich showed up.. but no side.... long while later, another sandwich.. no side... then one Salad... then later my sandwich... then about half way through our sandwiches two sides of fries, half cooked.

In the end the sandwich wasn't bad, but "Barbecue King?" Barbecue Jester is more accurate. Maybe by some off chance it was an off day, but this place is a joke and we will not be back.

I was with buck and chuck today at lunch. The servers are left overs from the previous incarnations at this location and have not figured out how to deliver more than o n e i t e m a t a t i m e so everything took extra time. I've been places where maybe one side had run out, but all but the fries and salad gone as of 12:30?

The tri-tip was tasty, but the meat for the sandwich could have been sliced thinner to be more bread friendly. And the dish was undersized so there was constant threat of losing food off the plate. It was a stressful lunch (over an) hour when one would hope to simply eat / enjoy / relax.

Well, in all things, they have to catch up with their management style, give them a second chance within the month. Better yet, try Mom BBQ in Van Nuys, Van Owen/Hazeltine, think you are going to like it.

‎KINGS TEXAS BARBECUE WOODLAND HILLS CA.
IT WAS HORRIBLE " THEY CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND "

I am trying to be compassionate: but
I'll tell my story, and you decide.
My friend and I arrived at 6:30pm.
There were 15 people lined up and
streaming out the door and more coming.
Half of the Restaurant was empty tables.
After 10 minutes if waiting I stepped in
stuck my head in the kitchen.
I asked the only young man from Texas to
please seat us. All of the tables
outside were empty too. He was stressed
and sweaty.
He said that he couldn't seat any of us
because the kitchen wouldn't be able to
keep up with the demand. Red Flag!
I grew up in the Restaurant and Hotel
Business: My mother and I even in her
60's would have had everyone seated:
comfortable and with a drink.
My friend and I were seated 20 minutes
after we arrived. People were leaving
frustrated one after the other.
10 minutes after that our order was
taken: The first thing he said was: we
are out of baby backs. another 10
minutes and we had drinks.
OK, so we went for the pork ribs. He
said yes: they would be most tender. I
know this to be true: I am a country
girl who knows how to cook.
20 minutes later we get one plate of
ribs. 5 minutes after that we get a 2nd
plate of ribs. The pork ribs were under
cooked and only the fat could be bitten
in to.
10 minutes later we get our coleslaw.
The coleslaw is very good.
10 minutes after that we get french
fries and two corn muffins that are
burnt.
I then very kindly remind our server
that we also ordered mac and cheese.
10 minutes later we get that. It was ok.
I asked other people on their way out:
How were your ribs?
They said that they were tender.
Being a cook: I highly recommend that
the owner simmers ribs in there sauce
over night so that this never happens
again.
The Barbecue Sauce sells for 2.50$ It is
very good.
Buy the sauce and make your own ribs at
home.
Our bill for the two Pork Rib Meals, two
drinks and an extra side was 40$
We gave our server a 50% off and Entree
Coupon. He took 4$ off ?
I'm reading all of these amazing reviews
and am bewildered?
Are they posting their own reviews, or
are some people actually getting good
food and service? I was watching others
being served: and it was bad.
I asked a dark complected man outside
how is food was?
He said it was great: that he is a
friend of the owners. He also mentioned
that The Daily News ran a big article .
BIG DEAL
I told him that ours was terrible and so
was the service.
He was more than a little threatening.
He asked me what I do for a living? I
told him Broadcasting.
He told me that he could buy my company
with Pocket Change lol
Takes all kind...
Good Luck, It sounds like a hit or miss
deal: but you be the judge.
P.S. They need more servers and cooks
etc, and a bigger restaurant to keep up
or they won't last. One terrible
experience like that and I never go
back.

We've eaten here twice since it opened and the food is great! Some of the best tasting BBQ I've ever had. The ribs and chicken and smoked perfectly and the sauce is sweet, smokey and has a little kick to it. Our kids love the mac and cheese. The only downfall is that on both occasions, there was only one waitress working. and while she is very nice, she still doesn't know the menu that well and could use more help (it's hard to get drinks for four tables at the same time. Also, on both occasions there was at least one meat on the menu that was out (the last piece was served to someone else 15 minutes earlier). We're just bummed because they were pushing that we try the beef ribs and then they weren't available. All in all, we would definitely go back because the food is so good.

DId this reporter eat the same food I did? Good lord, it doesn't seem so.
The food we had here was terrible, and they tried to pass off country style ribs as baby-back ribs. They were overcooked and chewy. The "cornbread" we ate was tough, dried out, a looked like a tiny little hockey puck with corn kernels in it. The potato salad was mushy, service was slow and piece meal.

Our waitress kept forgetting to bring things, like utensils, water, napkins and completely left off a side order of french fries for my son. Heck, you couldn't even smell the BBQ from inside the restaurant.
I really hate it when reporters write good reviews just to get a free meal. She would been better off reading the reviews on YELP and then writing the article. Do your better research heavens sake instead of taking the owners word for everything
