What a rude and disrespectful statement. I see you are from Detroit--so I understand you wouldn't even understand what an accomplishment this is for these kids. I will try to explain this story doesn't seem like "no big deal".
Kids who show off their farm animals and livestock at the fair have worked all year long (and sometimes even longer)to be able to present a healthy and desireable animal to be able to not just show, but to sell or auction off to the highest bidder. Even if the kid doesn't earn a ribbon, in the end, they are still winners. When their animal is sold or auctioned off, 9 times out of 10, this money goes in to the children's college fund. Do you have ANY idea, how wonderful this makes the kid feel knowing that he or she has worked hard to raise, feed and care for an animal, then to sell it to help pay their way through college? Not only has the child learned to be responsible, they have learned to have a great work ethic, as well as learned to set goals and plan for their future. What a great teaching tool!
In addition, this is quite an accomplishment for one child---but for quads?? Wow. Should these kids continue showing livestock over the next several years, do you have any idea how much money this will raise for FOUR kids entering college ALL in the same year??? I think the parents are ingenious to involve these kids in the 4H program! I only wish I had thought to do this---as I would have saved myself a lot of money on my kids' college education.
As someone who was born and raised in the city, I never understood this either until I moved to the country. Hope this clears things up for you a bit.
