Who are you to decide he will go to h ell? I would think that would be up to a higher power than you. The man is not accustomed to having small children in his home, much less special needs children. He said the mother was there, she knew that he kept guns in the house. What makes her less responsible than him? And unless you have hung on a cross with nails in your body recently... it is not up to you, where this man will spend eternity! He is suffering his own he.ll right here on earth, right now.

First of all, I do not believe that guns should be banned. HOWEVER, if you own a gun and children are in the house, it is the gun owner's responsiblity to make sure that the guns are secured (preferably unloaded with the ammo in another locked place) where the kids cannot get to them. There are gun safes on the market that could have prevented this tragedy.

Yes, this is a horrible accident, and I feel badly for the grandfather. Obviously he never meant for this to happen. I think he should have to do community service teaching children gun safety. The worst part about this is that with proper prevention, this could have been prevented.

How do we not know that the gun WAS lock up and the boy still got in there??? Kids all know how to get into things that they are not suppose to.I think that we all remember everything we gotten into when we were kids. My dad keep his gun under the bed or even by the back door and we never once thought about touching it. Even though my father has the bullets in a safe spot all of us kids still new where there were.
I pray for the family, this is a sad thing that has happen here. My God bless the little girl and may the angels watch over her.

It's absolutely rude and disgusting for anyone to come here and wish someone to go to hell for this. You really should be ashamed of yourself.

I know what this family is going through. My 8 yr old cousin shot his little brother with a gun nearly twenty years ago and he was also autistic. What people don't know about autistic kids is that they can open anything. We had to lock so many things up from him and he still got to them because he only had to watch once and he knew what to do including getting his parents attention away from what he was doing. The boy in the story, could have very well unlocked that gun with no problem while adults were out of the room. As far as the boy knowing what he did to his sister, he probably doesn't understand what happen. That is the way autism works depending how bad he is on the spectrum scale. In my eyes this was a terrible accident and a hard lesson to learn for all. My prayers are with this family.

Spoken like someone who either a) has no kids, or b) no brains. Definitely c) no tact.

There is no such thing as an ďaccidentĒ with a gun. Iím not sure how secure he thought it was but obviously it was not secure enough. I donít believe Grandpa should go to h*** but I do think he should go to jail.

Clearly the guy was "shook up", he knew this was bad, and compounded worse by the fct that he is a certified gun safety instructor.
if you have ever taken a gun safety course, as I have and repeated it with each of my sons, then you know how self righteous these guys are when they stand in front of the class and preach safety.
Each class I attended was at a different venue, and taught by different instructors, but tey all had this in common. The instructors will repeat their safety mantra 100+ times during the class. I am sure this is haunting him as we type.

I agree, grand father is in his own h ell, but as a certified gun instructor, he should have known better. Prayers are with the family.

WOW! I'm glad Christi that you are so perfect that you've never made a mistake. I hate guns, but I also know that Steve is in his own h---. How dare you condemn this man. He has to live with this the rest of his life as does his family. You do not know the circumstances. I also know Tom, that Steve has never been self righteous. I know this because as much as I do hate guns, I allowed him to teach my children about them and he was very careful and made a point to teach them about safety. I also know that being in his house and seeing his guns, they were in locked cabinets or if they weren't, there were absolutely NO bullets in them or laying anywhere that a child could find them and the saftey was on them. This was just a very tragic ACCIDENT.

"The saftey was on them" hmmm. Anyways, at my house I have a coded gun safe (that I can't even get in half the time!) and then cable locks through all my pistols, if I ever have to get at them quickly it would be laughable. I feel confident that my kids can't get to them. If I did'nt they would not be in my house.

Autistic children are noted for being able to take things apart easily... it's the putting things back together that gives them trouble...
