Are helmets mandatory for a 17 year old on an ATV?
If so, then dumb for not wearing one.
If not, then not dumb, it was his choice.

It is to bad that people have to learn the hard way that their heads are not the thing you want to hit things with. Why would anybody drive their ATV's anywere, let alone on the shoulder of the road were it is illegal, without a helmet.

This should be a learning experience, not only for this teen, but all young people who think nothing can happen to them. It's always smart to wear a helmet.

I hope he will be okay.

I would have to say by your spelling and grammar that it is reflective of your (and your friend's) IQ. There is a reason why the law states helmets must be worn while riding an ATV. In addition, there is a law why ATVs are not to be operated on a roadway! It is for the safety of the operator! He was obviously going too fast to be able to safely stop when he saw a car back out onto a roadway. A roadway in which vehicles are licensed to have the privilege to travel. He's seventeen and I would hope the local police or Conservation Officer tickets him for the helmet and riding on a roadway. I'm sure he also didn't have an ORV sticker or goggles which are also required for operation. Common sense people!!

hmmm, i guess if he wasent riding on/in the road where cars have the right of way and where riding ATV's happens to be "illegal",
Then it wouldnt have happend to your little buddy in the first place, let alone anyone else.

and i will call you out on that little fact.

but hey go learn the hard way,
if thats what it takes to teach lifes little lessons.
im all for it.

p.s. nice language BTW, i bet your parents are soooo proud.

So a car backed out and he had to swerve to miss it, big deal. If he hadn't been riding it on the shoulder where he shouldn't have been he wouldn't have to worry about cars backing out.
The nerve of some people trying to back out of their own driveways and causing someone riding an atv in the wrong place to have to swerve.
What's up with the grammar? did you not wear your helmet and bump your head?

Wow, talk about cold, people. Teenagers do stupid stuff sometimes. How about a little bit of compassion? My guess is that you have done some pretty stupid stuff when you were younger, too. It just wasn't reported on the tv. To his friend, I hope your friend makes a complete recovery. My prayers are with you. Not everyone that lives "in the country is stupid" you know. We have higher IQ's than what you give us credit for. Give me a break.

Come on a learning experience.. OH HUGS AND KISS's. I've been riding quads and bikes my whole life. Yes at times with helmets, when out in the woods. But if your on one, riding from a house to a house on a road. COME ON...
