Spend a lot of taxpayer dollars to fix it up

Spend billions more on its schools

Declare martial law

Jail all its public officials

Abandon it and allow anarchy

Bulldoze it

Let it burn to the ground

Build a huge wall around it

Hire strippers for Mayor Kilpatrick

Distribute free crack to everyone

Damn you guys are harsh. I was just in Detroit at Comerica yesterday. While there are a lot of abandoned buildings and residential areas in dire need of a pick me up the Downtown area has improved vastly in just the last 8 or 10 years. Of course having Ford Field, the casino, Comerica and Joe Louis all in the same area has really helped.

To me we need to look into more in the way of homeowner tax breaks to improvements in the residential sector and tax breaks to developers looking to improve the area as well.

Unfortunately as Dingo pointed out corruption in government in the area has made it nearly impossible to get the money or tax breaks out to those who really need it.

So I guess my first step would be to clean house in the government sector and start fresh. Then move on to how we solve the blight and other issues in the inner city itself. Of course finding ways to get children in poor districts a better education should be priority one.

I don't know much about the Detroit city council, but of course the last few scandals kind of give us a clue as to what goes on over there. One thing we don't here much about the crime and other news stories from that area, I mean we here about Muskegon and the Kalamazoo area but not much from over there, only if it is something really bad.
