Why is this news?

I agree with rval...if this had been a cashier or a shoe shiner, this would not make the news.

What a surprise! We take these people (teachers) and hold them to a higher standard then we, ourselves, desire to be held.

That is all fine and dandy until something like this happens and we figure out that, well, they are not any better or worse than we are.

Why? Because they are human, too. They come from us. In fact, they ARE us.

It now appears they really want him gone. The paper has reported innuendos from the school board that there are other things involved.

Yeah, those other things?
How about his student teacher relationships dealing with giving minors alcohol

there's a LOT more to the story then just drinking and driving

i'm probably in your class, this year. and we aren't 5 weeks behind I believe we are 7-8 weeks behind.
he don't learn anything, we have been left unsupervised countless times.
the kids that are saying he's a great teacher are saying that because he was an easy A. He never gave us work, and this whole year we've had 10 total assignments that could be turned in whenever we wanted.
he shouldn't be fired for drunk driving. everyone does make mistakes and it shouldn't reflect his job, he was in fact an extremely nice man.
but he honestly a terrible teacher. he should be fired for that. and if you disagree with me you probably haven't had him as a teacher this year.
we knew he'd have to leave for something.
I probably am in your class...are you in 1st or second hour??
Im in second, but i dont think he should be a teacher.
We really are SO FAR behind. But Mr. E is really nice.

im probably in both of your classes and i agree it is an easy A. Our sub is wondering how we are going to catch up with the other classes and we are going to have to go learn all of this and the things coming up in 5 weeks. I have to say that everyone i talked to is happy that we finally have order and is doing work. That just shows how much he really tought us.

Shouldn't it read allegedly led police in a chase? After all, he was only allegedly drunk too?

I agree with Mike. At first glance, I wish I could get put on paid leave for behaving badly like that, but in reality, this should have no impact on his teaching career. Well, unless he was drunk on school time, or drives bus.
So yes, it was stupid, he could have killed innocent people. He should probably go to jail for a long time. Until/unless he's convicted and physically unable to go to work though, I don't see why he shouldn't still be teaching.
Unless it says something about this kind of offense in his contract, I agree. Many people commit the same crime and don' necessarily lose their jobs.

i had him as a teacher in 7th grade.. everyone loved him he taught us a lot and he was also a very good motivator.. he had leadership lunch where he bought two people from every hour pizza and pop once a week to reward us..he told us much more about his family and past than any other teacher ive known.. for you who said he was a terrible teacher he just has a different teaching persepctive than you would like.. he teaches real life things instead of useless thing that the books teach us

Yes he did something stupid...who has not? He crosses the line however when he enters the girls locker room.

Um...so let me get this straight. He was a "good motivator", told you intimate details of his family life, taught you "life things", had lunch with students in small groups, supplied alcohol to minors and charged into the girls locker room. I'm a parent. Sorry but I wouldn't want my kids around this guy.

he was my teacher last year and my favorite one at that
he was a little scatterbrained all the time but he did have a.d.d. problems
but it shouldnt effect his job because he wasnt involvend in school at that moment
everyone makes mistakes and unfortunatly he made a big one.\
but that doesnt make him a bad teacher. i learned alot from him but i do think it should be a lesson for students in the school
