I also agree with the fact that Coach Dean only played his "great" players. Why were they his best players? Well because that's who practice was held for. Coach Dean didn't work with the others players, we were just there to to help the "great" players work on their skills.
This is complete bullshit. I won't name names, but I remember Dean playing girls who weren't really that great of players. But he did it, and he still won. Almost everybody on the team got to play and the only ones who didn't were the ones who had no business being on the floor in the first place. I watched his practices for years. He didn't hold practice to help the "great" players work on their skills - that's the most ignorant thing I've ever heard and it sounds like the comments of a bitter former player who couldn't cut it. His practices involved EVERYONE and were more often than not focused on team man-to-man, help-side defense. He ran shell drills over and over and over again and EVERY girl on the team participated and was subject to criticism and evaluation. He worked on his "run and jump" press for hours at a time, and once again, every girl on the team was forced to learn it inside and out.

So, after my 10th grade yr ended and Lauren Wright, Heather Johnson, ect all graduated, it was no secret that the players left wouldn't exactly make a successful team for the next yr. Coach Dean bailed on us. Oh wait, nevermind he left to be closer to his family... Yea right, it was a good cover up though!
Ok this pretty much verifies my theory that you are just a bitter former player. The man's entire family was out west, the job was at a bigger school, the pay was better, and his wife had secured a job as well. It was the best move at the time for his family and his future, and if you begrudge him for that then you are petty and immature.
Past Player wrote:
Anyways, so Coach Hoffman moved in and I won't lie we hated his guts, we wanted Coach Dean because he was all we had ever known. So with a new Coach,12 very unexperienced players,(unexperienced because Coach Dean never worked with us)
Once again, clear signs of a bitter former player. Did you ever consider the fact that you were inexperienced because you were 1) a sophomore when Dean coached you and 2) you weren't good enough to be playing? Only very good sophomores get to see playing time, especially on teams as talented as the ones Dean coached.
Past Player wrote:
Coach Hoffman isn't far from a State appearance with the girls he has coming up, especially from the Jr. High bunch. I can't wait for him to prove them all wrong!
I hope you're right. I love to see Marmaduke succeed. I went to school there most of my life and I still have very good friends there. Still, the point remains that no one in recent history has had anywhere close to the success that Dean had while he was there. Maybe Dean did have better players. But maybe, just maybe, those players were better because they played for him the whole way through. I mean, to say that the superior talent levels (at a tiny school like Marmaduke) for girls hoops for 10-12 STRAIGHT YEARS was just due to chance is a bit of a stretch.

being mean to little girls doesn't make him a good coach. you simply can't handle kids these days like barner, bolin, or even dean. he is rediculous with his technique. he makes them do push ups at half time and hold themselves in the push up position while he belittles them.

for those of you who said that he gets the most of them, what would you say about the many girls who would have played for a coach with common sense and true motivational techniques. what did he have 6 or 7 girls last year? in the years past there were so many trying out that some didn't make the team. What would you say about the girls who are reaching their full potential at other schools this next year? It is Nazi ball. His way or the highway. Check Marmaduke verses Rector this fall and see who is the better coach.

I repeat, being mean to little girls doesn't make him a good coach and it doesn't make them quitters when they can't play for an >>>>>>

Okay so i have played for Coach Hoffman and yes the quitters are bellyachers. The reason Jr. High is so good is because we dont huff up and quit like all of the other whiners whenever the going gets tough. He is only hard on us because he sees something in us. All he is is a good coach looking for a winning team. Yes he gets mad...what coach doesnt? Apparently you have no clue what you are talking about. I think he is a great coach and doesnt deserve to have people like you putting him down after all the hard work he has put into having a good team.

Well he's always putting down the 8th grade and when they do good in a game all he can do is tell them what they did wrong and not one thing positive to say.
And he wants to win by at least 30 points or its not good enough for him. did you ever think if he played the ones he has benched all the time the team that is supposed to be so bad might just get better .The quitters are not bellyachers they are just fed up with the CRAP that is going on .

P.S
Coach Hoffman
is a bad coach
and a cry baby.

The 8th grade likes to argue and have a bad attitude. They need to have someone to get onto them to straighten them up. He doesnt play them because they are hardle at practice, like to argue, and miss for no reason what so ever. Alright the quitters can cry and quit. They are only fed up with it because they arent tough enough to handle anything. We like to win by 30 because it makes us look good plus its fun. Coach Hoffman is a great coach. No he is not a cry baby. He puts so much time into the team..i think he deserves a lot of credit.

i play for coach hoffman and he deserves nothing but respect. for you people who like to feel sorry for the girls who play for him are pathetic. coach believes in us and pushes us. not only does he teach us how to win, but to have a good attitude about yourself. he teaches his kids not to miss and to have good grades. what he's teaching us will help us out in the long run when we have a real job. it makes us a stronger person and the little things won't let us down. i love coach hoffman to death and you people obviously don't see what we see in him (his players). most of people are probably parents who thinks their spoiled children shouldn't be pushed and believed in. winning by 30 points is something to be proud of! the biggest problem i see is that coach hoffman and coach smith believes in their players when some parents thinks it's a punishment to push them. do you people know what it takes to win a district championship, regional championship, or even state championship? no.. go feel sorry for the teenagers who are wasting their life away on drugs and drinking and leave lady greyhounds alone.

Hey just because some players quit the (precious marmaduke greyhound basketball team) does not mean that their spoiled or sorry a-- quiters as some people call them their just kids. This maybe hard for the coaches and some others to understand but just maybe these kids have something else in mind for their future than just basketball there's other things out there than just basketball you know and you don't have to play basketball to be a doctor, lawer, judge, police officer, vet, mechanic, nurse, pos tal workers,teachers,ect... you can be anything that you want without playing basketball.

you took it the wrong way.. you sound like a 7th grader writing an argumentive essay bc these points are like.. duhh?? we're tired of people bashing coach hoffman. we never said it would get you through life just simply said he teaches the girls other things than basketball - things that you will benefit from when you do get a real job such as: "doctor, lawer, judge, polic e officer, vet, mechanic, nurse, pos tal workers,teachers,ect..." nice points though, i never saw it coming! you blew us all away!!!

Nobody bashes them. They quit because they cant handle anything. Yeah basketball isnt a the rest of your life thing. But the Marmaduke team teaches girls to be more respectful of others and gets them ready for the real world. What Coach does isnt being mean...he only gets onto us because he thinks a lot of us and wants us to be the best of our ability. Its called tough love. But the sorry bellyachers that cant handle it deserve to quit anyway. We are trying to form a good group team...not a good one player team.

you are right about one thing. He is teaching them how to be negative all the time and how to never be satisfied. I agree with one of the other posters, just because you are mean to girls don't make you a good coach. He belittles them.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Virgo

You're struggling to get everything finished in time today, making you feel fractious and tired. At some point you may have to take a pragmatic decision about which tasks must be completed today and which will have to be postponed until another day. Do your best to keep things in proportion otherwise you'll waste time in trivial details and needless nit-picking.
