GCT will never build a (football, soccer) (softball baseball) complex as long as the current school board is in power. We need to get out and vote in the school board election next Tuesday.

I don't know if anyone from our board reads Topix, but I hope this gets back to them:
Our 4th and 5th graders are being offered 15 minutes of recess each day at the MOST.

On rainy days, the kids are forced to SIT at the cafeteria tables during their "so-called" recess time.

The dress code is so mightily enforced that a couple of east-winged teachers spend their time in the halls looking for shorts with fringe rather than making sure the children have had a healthy breakfast. High school students who NEED to cover up get away with more indecent exposure.

My child hates school now. And has always loved it before being in the 4th grade.

Well maybe the can make sure that it is not all spent in one place next time, and a few new memebers that can keep their word would not hurt eather.

You are exactly right Baseball Mom. Get 'em outta there!
(A few administrators could stand to be replaced too. And I'm not talking about Greer, Todd or Weeks.)

Damn right! Let's vote them out because there's not new athletic facilities! Hell, I graduated from GCT and played sports and have kids who go there and I couldn't care less whether they ever get a new football field or any new athletic facilities. Last time I checked, building a new athletic complex wasn't or shouldn't be the top priority of the administration. I'm more concerned whether my kids get an education that will prepare them for college and entering the real world. Athletic facilities is an arms race and once it's started, where does it stop? Your idea of voting out the school board because there's not a new football field is completely idiotic!!!

Let's vote them out so that we can start spending money somewhere besides some kind of sport. I agree that one sport might get more than another, but academics gets a bad deal over sports in general. Examine our current board. Who has children in sports and "need" to help a coach out? Who has family members who profit from the business of GCT? Who needs to stay in power so that they can support family agendas? Who sees the position as a notch in his belt and a status symbol? If you can't answer all these questions, that is ok. Just answer this one: Who fits into none of these profiles and is truly on our board for the general well-being of ALL of our students? I can think of maybe one. And one isn't enough to make things happen. We need to clean house.

Sports are for fun. They dont need a fancy place to play. We send our kids to school for an education so I think that is where the money needs to be spent. Baseball, football, basketball and all the other sports will not make these kids a living but an education will

Well you might as well forget about the education now since they did away with the no child left behind act. Last year sylvan came there for a few weeks to help kids like mine with reading and math. So I guess that truly they care about sports more than education. Sucks doesn't it.

The old high school was suppost to be remodeled so our JR high kids would have a good school building never happened. This was to part of the new high project. What happened to that money. My kid doesn't even have a library at the JR high. I think that is more important than any ball playing. We need a new school board that does what they say they will do. I will be voting in this election and I will not vote for anyone that is already on the school board and I hope everyone else does the same thing.

The problem is a school board and a Superintendent who do not have a clue about Arkansas school law or finance. They should be held accountable for their poor choice of Supt. He drove the Kennett School district into a financial and academic crisis. Just look it up.

None at the JR High. These days the library is used as a place filled with books for students to use but it also has lots of computers so kids can do research for writing papers and different class work where computers are needed. I know it's hard to believe but most kids don't have use of them at home. A library at the JR High is very important for our children's education.

When a school district is spending all it's money on sports and the education of our children is suffering it's time to do a lot more than grip. Vote out the school board members we can get rid of one Tuesday. Two more are up for reelection next year that will take care of the problem in one year. Everybody needs to go vote Tuesday.
