OLD CHEMICAL PLANT wrote: What is really scary about this is when I was a kid in 1960, there was an abandoned chemical warehouse on Church Road in Mount Laurel It was located about 1/2 mile on left from Rt 73 towards Traino's and where the road elevates in height. There were a ton of right blue chemical drums that were full and tipped over and spilled out. When we saw the poison sign we ran away. When they built houses there in the late 70's or early 90's, I telephoned the NJ DEP several times and I was advised that the site was "ok." I wonder if those people that live there were informed of this. If you live near here, please check this out. I think the area is across from the Hovnanian property and id I remember there is a lake across the street and adjacent to the Hovnanian estate. Does that water go to any public access??? I will check back to see if anyone needs more direction on this. But records must exist. This area is closer to 73 on Church? I live on Church Rd now, close to Academy Dr. Please let me know - I'm interested to find out. Also - does anyone know why there are so many abandoned homes on Church Rd on the other side of 73 by Fellowship Rd?

Title searches only go back 20 years so they will miss the toxic sites! So, why is no one talking about this subject now? what happened to all of the activists? The township has not even finished that road and sewer job. I think they put the money into the football field on Mt. Laurel road. the one that has those huge lights that they let burn at night while they talk of furloughing workers...

jen,
The area with the alleged chemical plant is now called Ramblewood Mews I blieve, the condos on country Club Parkway,
The abandoned houses are because a developer bought the entrie block with hopes of putting in either a hotel or a shopping center and it apparantly fell through.

I know that all of the area surrounding the south branch of the pennsauken creek was a giant land fill on the cherry hill side. They just are not digging deep enough into the ground under those big tax collecting wharehouses next to the creek. Its there.Who knows maybe they'll find J.H. buried there. Who is J.H.?
