I drive 15 miles one way to work and I see alot of people on cells phones in that 30 minutes. Some Can drive and talk other can not.If the person who caused the accident was on a cell phone at the time it should be treated the same as a DUI.These people are scary.I would like to see stats on how many accidents involved cell phone use at the time.I bet it'e over 50 percent.

WOW look a rider with a helmet on died! You mean to tell me this miracle device did not save his life? Wonder what all the non riders pushing helmets to save MY LIFE will say now?In regards to the other death.A car left turned in front of the bike. What a surprise!NOT. People in cars need to become more educated about motorcycles. We have as much right as you to be on the road.Rest in peace to both these riders.

Airborne Car Strikes Motorcycle
Husband, Wife Critically Injured

POSTED: 9:10 pm EDT August 31, 2008
UPDATED: 9:30 pm EDT August 31, 2008

WOLCOTT, Conn.-- Two people were critically injured when an airborne car slammed into a motorcycle in Wolcott on Sunday afternoon.

Wolcott police said that Rodrick Boutote, 56, and his wife, Merlude, 51, were exiting the Cumberland Farms gas station on Wolcott Road on a motorcycle when a car driven by a Quinnipiac University student struck them.

Police said Edward Sitarski, 21, of New Jersey, was driving a Ford Taurus southbound on the roadway when he went off the right side of the road, striking a curb. Police said the car went airborne before hitting the side of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Both Rodrick Boutote and Merlude Boutote were transported to St. Mary's Hospital. They were listed in critical condition on Sunday evening.

Sitarski was transported to St. Mary's with minor injuries.

Police said Sitarski was driving at excessive speeds at the time of the crash.

In reply to Dogger. Grow up. Nice sympathy there. I live in Colchester and Tycody, the 16 year old that died, was one of my son's best friends. Use another forum to complain, NOT someone else's tragedies. Imagine it was a friend or loved one of yours that passed away. GEEEEEEZ.

Our best to Anna, Ed and Storm. Tycody will be surely missed. All too often loved ones are taken from us before their time. Corey and Ty were like brothers. It just won't be the same for any of us. We're here if you need anything.

What? He said nothing wrong about your friend!! Re-Read it. he was pertaining to the helmet law.Helmets don't always save lives. As in your friends case.Which was lack of Experience. He lost control.Very sad.

There are surely more suitable forums to complain about helmet laws.

"In Shelton, A motorcycle rider was killed on Bridgeport Avenue near the entrance ramp of Route 8 around 8:00 p.m. Sunday night. Police say a car turning onto the highway hit the motorcycle."

The article doesn't say the car made a left turn in front of the bike. I work in Shelton and I know this highway entrance.

Every time something sad like this happens a biker comes in and uses it as a forum not to wear helmets. Yes, it is your freedom of choice not to wear a helmet, as it is others freedom of choice to wear a helmet. But to write down the argument that because a person who was wearing a helmet did not live means that helmets do not save lives is the same as saying that seat belts do not save lives because all people wearing seat belts in an accident do not live. It is like saying because everyone who smokes does not die from it that smoking really isn't dangerous. Do you not see how it makes no sense? Yes, it your choice not to wear a helmet, great for you, but we all know helmets can and do save lives, but just not all of them.

Why was a kid that age out on a bike at that time of night? My guess is he was inexperienced and going way too fast. Its sad that he was killed but why was he out there in the first place?

What a sad ending to a troubled childhood. Such a sad loss for Tycody's family. BUT one question comes to mind...WHAT in the name of sweet Christ was that 16 year old boy doing out in the wee hours of the Morning on a motorcycle!!??? What a shame, what a waste.

I don't recall the article mentioning anything about Tycody's childhood OR that it was troubled. I agree he should NOT have put himself in that situation but my son has lost a "brother".

Nope John it was NOT mentioned in the article. I have knowledge of Tycody and his friends and activities. That was my frame of reference. All fact based. I am sorry for your son's loss, truly I am. This is not something we as parents wish our children to experience. I hope your son can deal with this with your help and the help of others who have suffered from this loss.

Exactly!!!!!!!! Who bought him the Bike? He looks really young to be on his own on a machine that has a reputation for instant death!!!A whole bunch of bad decisions here. But we can not ever truly know the out come until it happens.Just a really sad story. All the (But Ifs) wont change what happened.People should use things like this as a learning tool.Bad way to learn a lesson first hand.

Every body is pointing fingers The bottom line is when your Time is up its up....I feel very sad for this youngster. We all have done crazy things some are lucky and some aren`t only god has the answer. If there is one. I don`t know. Sometimes I don`t under stand life and why it ends the way it does. But I do know pointing fingers and we should have done this and that is not gonna bring him back. Life is one big playground make the best of it while your still here. Rest in peace Ty.
