All it is now is a bunch of pictures of dogs, polls about favorite flower shops, and " how much did your neighbor give to Romney or Obama?

What happened to Local NEWS, Lauren?? What about issues that matter to citizens, like our police chief desperately trying to leave town, an increase in crimes, businesses leaving, and people struggling to get by.

The site has failed in its mission, and now all it does Is beg us to bring in news eyes via Facebook. Does it get any more pathetic than telling us to PLEEEEEASE post our FB comments on the patch site? Why? So you can try to appease your bosses at HuffPo?

Here's an idea.....take a poll about what's more important...safety, crime, and business growth in oak forest or who is our favorite hot dog spot. Then do stories about the winner.

People in this city live in denial, there are problems that have been brewing for some time than need a spotlight on them. I am not one to automatically cast everyone involved with the city as a villain, but I won't cheer-lead for the city either when we all know something isn't right.

I wish more people would support ripping the band-aid off and taking a little pain, so we can start rebuilding this city.

LAUREN IF YOU ARE READING THIS, START DOING HARD NEWS, INVESTIGATIVE PIECES.

Here are some ideas to get you going;

- What percentage of city employees (or families of) donated to campaign funds of city officials

- Where exactly are these city cameras the police chief referenced in a video interview on patch, at the Metra lot?(I'm aware of the County owned camera in the woods, that I don't even think works anymore, where the hell is that aimed anyways)

- Why are members that have cheated on promotional exams still working for city departments.

- What duties are required of the chief of police, and how many hours does he spend in the city limits. DIDO for the Fire Chief.

- Why isn't residency required for ALL management/command members of departments in this city?

- What happened to the LED marquee we bought and demolished at the gateway intersection.

- Why is our fire department constantly responding to Oak Forest hospital, and are we getting reimbursed for response/transport fees by the county. Why don't they contract with Trace. BUDS etc for transports.

- Why are certain budgets / treasurers reports available online, and others omitted.

- JIM RICHMOND, seriously just dig as much as you can.

- What city employees have family members/spouses also employed

- Why doesn't our city officials and business development dept have a targeted plan to find business for our city. We should be calling them, showing parcels, not waiting for them to come to us.

--

Closing this post, let me say Oak Forest is still a decent place to live (been here just shy of 30 years). Compared to many surrounding towns we are not anywhere near the worst of the bunch. That said failure to address these issues NOW, will lead to our downfall as a safe place to live. There are people on both sides of the fence that annoy the ---- out of me. Claiming it is a GREAT!!! place to live, or that we have totally gone to the dogs. Lets just sum it up with this statement. Dog parks are nice, and I would like one, but we should get our finances and business development tackled first before focusing on window dressing.

I agree with all the items you have brought up and to add one to the list......how nabout City Emplyees that double-dip? They are oe two different department payrolls?? oh yes it is happening! Jobs are not posted, just filled with friends! With all the people out of work in this town that would apprecaite a part- time job! Are they not required to posta nd interview for the position??

It really hit me last night as I came back into town at 159t and Cicero. WOW.........nothing has happened to the "gateway" in a very long time!

What the .....is going on with out leadership??

If something doesn't happen quick,It is only a matter of time befre CVS is gone also. Then we are back to square one!

Also we are all calling on Lauren to report hard news in this town but, the directive from her employer may never be to report hard news. I am sure she has guide linse to follow and they are telling her what, where and when to write. Just because you or I want it to be different doesn't mean it will ever change.

The Tribune, never covers this area. The demos are to low.

The Southtown doesn't write anything about this town either, unless a certain employee is the focus of the article! I am sure many of you know who I am referring to.

If Lauren isn't going to look into serious issues then she needs to do two things.

First, publicly state that it isn't in her realm of expertise to do so. That would silence some of the folks out there.

Second, she should stop baiting the citizens with her pseudo-concern for our well being by doing puff pieces about crime, child sex offenders, crime statistics, and pieces about the chiefs ongoing exit strategy.

It pisses me off as a parent of two kids that she and her site does this type of BS. It also lowers her opinion in this and many other parents eyes by her lack of effort into getting answers that we need. Enough about the dog park and houses for sale, Lauren. It's no wonder readership is down and you can't get more FB responses. You have literally bored the crap out of us. Go away or get to work.

Great post. The cameras for Metra are at the police department. The question is does anyone monitor them? A great exposť story...someone camped out to record how much are Chiefs are actually at work! Is that a form of ghost patrolling?

Go to http://www.elections.il.gov and look up Kuspa. It shows who has donated to the mayors kitty. I dont know a lot of city employees but i see a few on the list. I realize it is their perogative to donate but i cant help but wonder what is the payback. I just dont trust the City and their politics. A good journalist would love to start digging.

Res, the problem is Lauren is not a good journalist. She's not even mediocre. She babysits a website that has dwindling readership (except for the political nutbags that post racist comments), few advertisers, and a no idea how to get answers for oak forest citizens, unless of course it pertains to a f'ing dog park.

As the news saying goes, garbage in, garbage out.

I think one of you should invite Lauren to this thread and let her know what your issues are, instead of mucking up each and every thread about your displeasure with her. I was going to email her, but I want to see if any of you have the balls to talk to her on this forum, and not behind her back. Every thread ends up with someone bashing Lauren. How do you even know that she's aware of the Topix Website? Maybe she will take some of your advice and look into stories you are interested in.

Ironically, this is the only thread where you guys are on topic.

Colloquy,

The patch regularly cross posts their articles here on topix so she is fair game. She reads these, I guarantee it. It's my belief that she has been told by her handlers to refrain from posting here or even acknowledging these posts. To post negative thoughts on the patch such as these are removed by,you guessed it, Lauren.

The more I think about this, the more I agree. Patch likes to tempt readers with headlines, but the stories are utterly devoid of useful information.

They deleted my response to the Hille stop light at least 4 times in one day. Because I was exposing The school board/ school district as liars. If you read the terms of usage they say they will co- operate with local governments and schools. So anything they don't want will get deleted. They obviously want to be on good terms with the schools because they feed a lot of "fluff" news their way!

Does The Patch post their articles here, or does Topix search for news articles from ANY newspaper with news relating to Oak Forest?

Let's go with your idea and say The Patch 'cross post's their articles here. Don't you think that they have IT people in charge of that? It's an Editors job to get the news (or lack of, as you would say) published. I would think it's another departments responsibility to get it on the Web.

All I'm saying is that your complaints are falling on deaf ears. There are thousands of forums out there. I bet she doesn't know about all of them. I'm sure she would love to hear constructive criticism and be happy to look into news stories that people are interested in, if ONLY people would talk TO her, and not ABOUT her on a forum that she may or may not know about.

I would bet she cross posts this information. If you have read other posts regarding patch, they seem short on bodies!

Is Oak Forest Watch that same group of City Employees and Aldermen that worked on the election in 2008? My neighbor tells me that some old alderman is the one that started that group! I only see one old alderman on the council now is that the same person? Let's get him to start it up again! I am sure he has a list of employees that worked on that sight also! We should get him to start that sight up again!

I think Lauren writes quite well. I think she stays within the parameters set for her. Patch starts handling controversial subjects in O.F. and the info pipe from city hall gets shut down and she is out of business. Cut her some slack, she is just doing her job. You know what you are getting when you click on the Patch link just like you know you are getting an open forum when you click on Topix.

I don't remember hearing an alderman was involved. Did hear employees. Believe it was pd and dpw.

And when you open up a Southtown it's all old news. Go to their Website and some it is a couple days old other articles are months old.... They just keep changing the dates

Someone tells me it had a great deal to do with the PW Employees, but also included the PD Commisioners (some are public employees), some activists and an Alderman. Where can we find those folks to get it started again, we need hard facts about this community and this administration never puts any information out there! So let's get the folks to start up the old Oak Forest Watch sight! Who do we talk to and get this going? It sure would be better than the Oak Forest Patch, SouthtownStar and the E-briefs, which are just the glaze on the donut! People need to get a message about the waste and problems in this administration!
