Saw an Orland ambulance in town today. Saw Oak Forest firemen get out of it. Wondered what was going on, so I walked down. Seems two of our ambulances are down as well as one fire engine, so we had to borrow one. What if another town didn't have that available?

Yet I see the Chief driving around in a brand new, black, SUV, unmarked, no less.

Was there ever a study done to see if it is more cost effective to pay mileage than to give someone a vehicle?

You are a liar, or just plain uninformed. The chief doesn't have a vehicle, and does get paid milage. He gets a lump sum which is calculated using milage numbers. The black SUV you see is driven by the Deputy Chief, and is scheduled to go in for lettering. The car is a necessity for the deputy because he has to be avai8lable 24/7 for emergency calls. We also have arrangements with a multitude of communities for exchange of services such as the loan of an engine or ambulance.

Yeah you would hate for the Deputy Chief to use his own vehicle to get to work.

Here is a big cost saving move, privatize the ambulance service. You would not need no where near the staff you have now. It would lessen the liability for the city. How can, Tinley Park, Midlothian, Crestwood, and several other towns do it and Oak Forest can not?

As far as that goes i give it a resounding "NO"

1) with the OFFD ambulance you know its staffed by PROPERLY TRAINED staff that is minutes away.... Private Ambulance might not be close eonough in a life and death situation.
2) As far as liability the city is covered by the "Tort Immunity Act"
3) Crestwood has its own ambulances

I did some fact finding. In this area North Palos and GFrankfort use a service that provides trained personnel at a fraction of the cost. They were their uniforms and the ambulance says Frankfort and North Palos respectively. I was told several towns out west and up north use the same service. So that makes your point moot.

Tinley has a contract with Trace ambulance. I asked and found out the paramedics working for Trace have the same traing as Oak Forest. They also said Trace paramedics have a lot more experience then oak Forset paramedics because they run 3 times the amount of calls covering Tinley Park.

Tell me how is this system wrong. Why is it we can not explore this option in Oak Forest. If it did not work the other towns would not have this type of service in place. We need to save money and here is a great way. Listen to the people and your check book not your fire union. That is what it boils down too.

Where did you get your facts from, Palos and Franfort are Fire protection districts which are taxing bodies, they are not private companies.

1)Trace is based out of Tinley Park so Location Location Location Not close enough for me if im having an emergency situation.
2) as far as Trace having more experience... i dont consider moving an elderly person from a N.H. to a hospital all that much experience.

It is very obvious you are an Oak Forest paramedic/firefighter. I have done a lot of research today. The paramedics for Trace assigned to the Tinley contract run 8,000 ambulance calls for Tinley Park compared to 3,400 total runs for Oak Forest. Do the math. Further more you completely ignored the option of hiring paramedics through a service like Frankfort and North Palso do along with several dozen town out west and up north. Also, i just called Midlothian and Crestwood. Midtlothian has a contract with Buds that gurantees and ambulance on the scene with in 4 minutes and second ambulance with in 7 minutes all for 12,000 per year and Buds bills the patients. Oak Forest bills the patient now and we are paying a lot more than 12,000 per year for paramedics.

Crestwood has a contract with Elite ambulance and gues what. They have 2 staffed ambulances in town (remember your location, location location) so tell me how hiring people who have the exact same training pass the exact same tests at a fraction of the cost is bad. Remember Trace paramedics assigned to the Tinley contract run approximately 4 times the amount of runs in TINLEY PARK ( stop with your bull crap of nursing home runs) so by shear volume they will gain a lot more experience then an Oak Forest Firefighter/paramedic.

Lets compare apple to apples. If there is a private police service that saves money lets investigate it. Lets look at subcontracting out water main and sewer breaks and see the costs are. We have private garbage collectors right now. Great idea.

1) have you ever seen the people from Kurtz?? i rest my case there.

2) PSI doesnt service a community NEAR the size of Oak Forest.
