What do you think of the Zumba class at the Wellness Center? Don't get me wrong, I love the WC and the instructors are really nice people, but I also know Zumba and it seems like they need more education on what Zumba actually is. It seems more like an unorganized, arm flailing, aerobics class instead of the Zumba class I was expecting. This is just my opinion and I will continue to go, but I was just wondering what everyone else thinks...

I refuse to go because of the people who participate, I know a handful of them are just nosey gossipers and would be the type that would take cell pics of me and post them online making fun of how fat my butt is, etc. haha

Why makes you think they would give you a second look? I would wager that they don't give a hoot about your butt. I guess it might take a nosey gossiper to know one.

People now days take pictures of everything. From what they eat, to what comes out the other end afterwards. It would not shock me to see either on facebook. I would like to think those that go to the gym respect others for trying to be healthy and not talk about them, but I have been too many places and overheard too many people talking about "so and so is this big, and they can only do this much on the cycle, and you should see so and so in a bathing suit blah blah". I for one do not care what people say about me, if they say I have a large butt,so be it. Other people are self consious of themselves and hearing others opinions is not helpful to them. My problem is I can not afford the outrageous rates they charge for a family. I much prefer lights, and running water to a gym membership. We both work full time and still can not afford the rates. I know alot of folks around here making min. wage doing the best they can, I guess health can not be the first priority for them.

OldTimer..you're stupid.
You have something to say about everything and most of the time it's not constructive; like your post on here for example.

The point of my comment was that I've seen people post photos on Facebook and other social media of people swimming and working out. People, like you, are rude and try your best to insult people and get a hand in something that's none of your business. I don't care if they "give a hoot" about my butt, but I'd "wager" that you'd be one that would show up on Facebook because something tells me you're a contrary asshole and people take pics of you because you're the type that has something to say about everything.

Talk about taking one to know one..prime example!

Regarding the Zumba class at the LWC, you can't get certified if you don't know how to teach the class. No instructor can get in front of a class and teach right off the bat. The instructors that they have are great! They are highly motivational, and get all of the class involved. Its like a party and they inspire everyone in class.Sounds like people need to be focusing on performing in the class instead of observing and criticizing others.

They offer financial assistance if you ever cared to check into it but obviously you are one of those health isn't a priority and you need an excuse...

Well I guess Harr was right about attitudes. Members is plain offensive. The LWC does offer some aid, but not enough to someone just barely getting by as it is. I won't pay the fees, and I do not really like the idea of not being able to pay on a month to month basis. Thanks for reminding the rest of us just how snobby and self righteous some people are. How can you possibly know what is a priority for someone else. Just rude if you ask me!

my cousin uses the sliding fee thing or the low income scale whatever they call it and she got a letter in the mail a month ago saying they werent doing it anymore and it jumped up to close to $40 instead of $25 or something. she is going to have to drop it because she is a student and only does work study and that has to pay for her gas they also dont have the student program where you dont have to sign a contract. when they first opened you could get a student account and not be obligated for a year because some kids come home for the summer during college and can only join for a few months but they cut that out too.

Not only that but they (LWC) havent always been the best to their staff. I seem to recall a few instances in particular with one of the male fitness staff that was a terrible mistreatment. He no longer works there because of this and it is a shame because he was always extremely knowledgable and helpful without making me feel dumb or lacking in fitness. And from all that I heard and talked about with other members, he was a very well liked and appreciated individual. There are several other incidences that i can recall with other staff as well. But I doubt that anything can or ever will be done about it. Maybe when a better facility such as an Anytime Fitness comes to Marion, the Board at the LWC will change their tune before they go completely under. Miss you BS!!

I had a bad experience a couple years ago with the LWC. The monthly special they advertised on the radio said "No initiation Fee for Full Time students." Well, what it should have said is No initation fee for Full Time students UNLESS you are married with kids. I was a full time student at WCC and was married with two children. I was told that I could sign myself up and get the $75 intitation fee waived, but only if I did not put my family on the membership. I thought I made a reasonable request by asking that they just take $75 of the cost of a family membership intitation fee which is usually $150, but that request was shot down quickly. I called the Director, Suzanne Jennings, to try to talk with her about this. She was very rude and made it very clear that she thought I was wasting her time. When I told her I didn't understand why I couldn't get the same $75 discount on the Family fee since I was a full time student, all she said is that "their intention was for the special to target full time students who were away for college and only came in during breaks. When I asked her if that meant they turned down students who went to school full time at WCC or VHCC but still lived in Marion, she said "No" and could offer no explanation as to how that was fair. She never once said "I understand" or "I'm sorry." It was obvious to me that THE LWC cared more about $$$ than the FAMILIES in the community. Needless to say, I chose not to become a member that day.

That's what happens when you realize that the buisness you work for is slowly going under. Money is top priority. Seniors take a very close second and the younger people are somewhere at the bottom of the list. If Mike's Health and Fitness would expand their hours I think it would shut the LWC down. For $25 or $30 a month I would go.

Let's think about this logically if you all can do that! For $25 to $30 you will pay for work out equipment and ignore that for just $10 more on an individual cost or $30 more for family you get:
Swimming facilities
shower rooms
Track
Gymnasium
Child Care
Fitness Professionals

One can't help but to ask where any of your arguments make sense??

Wythe wellness center can do it. Why can't Marion. Maybe because of the persons in charge??? Just hope they don't drag the Wellness Center down like they did the country club. Is it a coincidence that the same people that had money problems at the club are the same at the center. I think not.
