That's pretty shitty of you to say. He's being flown to wake forest for his injuries. They need prayers not criticism right now.
just because a bad person gets hurt doesnt suddenly make that person a good guy

Good gosh, poor guy. Ive heard some more details about it but ill keep it to myself since some people just want to laugh about it, and I agree why laugh about something like this? I really dont care what kind of person he is, the point of it is someone is hurt badly tonight, many people seen this happen, my 11 yr old disabled son is one of the people that seen it, he is so upset tonight over this, worried since he got home. An 11 yr old child can show remorse but an adult cant? wow.

Nobody said what kind of guy he was. He's a human who got hurt. Clearly you aren't a person with any character or morals to wish that on someone. No need to defend yourself either. Your comment speaks volumes on what Kind of person you are.

He is Dr. Hopkins' son. The one who was a vet in Marion for many years.

According to Ken Heath, there were three injured firefighters. Two were treated and released. The third has first and second degree burns on aprox. 10% of his body. He was taken to SCCH and then med flighted to Wake Forest burn center.
According to those that were there it was Chase Hopikins. It does not matter what anyone thinks about him, or has to say about him. He is a fellow human being, and a volunteer fire fighter. He and his family need our prayers. Worry about "what kind of guy" he is later. One thing is for sure, no matter what else he does, he is the "kind of guy" that will crawl out of bed in the middle of the night and run into your burning home to save your butt. The least we can do is offer prayers.

I cannot believe the utter callousness of the person who CALLS herself stephanie mcguire. First of all you used someone else's name, you coward. I know Stephanie and she would NEVER say that about chase, or ANYONE for that matter. That was BAD enough. THEN you make a comment on someone that you apparently don't like, who has just been severly burned.

Have you EVER heard the phrase "I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy?" I don't know of the worst heathen on this earth who has less compassion than you. And, trust me, you WILL pay for both offenses.

Please everyone pray for this young man. He has been sent to the Wake forest burn center....a place where they don't sent little burns, but SEVERE burns. My mother-in-law had what you and i would consider a severe burn and they didn't send her to a burn center and she was in agonizing pain. I feel so bad for Chase.

HOW DARE YOU!!!! Do you NOT know that your local volunteer firefighters put their lives @ risk each & every time they respond to a call. Its men like Chase that makes the fire departments strong. I know for a fact that when he puts on his gear & responds to a call he would die to help those in need & you want to be a JACK$$$ Chase is a good man. I don't care what you think about him. Maybe before you judge him you should put on gear, strap on an SCBA, & walk into a burning house & get a taste of what it is like. The fire department isa tight knit group of guys that are close as any family. My prayers are with you all. GET WELL SOON CHASE!!!!!

Someone put gas in there? wth? I'm really concerned about the younger generation in our area. And to make snide heartless comments as some have over this?!?! This young man needs our prayers and support. As well as the others who were hurt by this either physically or mentally.

On Thursday, 20 September, the Marion Life Saving Crew was called to Marion Senior High School Stadium (848 Stage Street), where students and supporters had gathered for the annual homecoming bonfire. Three Marion Volunteer firefighters assisting with the bonfire were injured when the debris pile exploded. Two firefighters were treated and released. The third firefighter suffered what are believed to be first and second degree burns over approximately ten percent of his body, and was transported to Smyth County Community Hospital, then flown to Burn Center at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.“His condition is not life-threatening, but serious.” said Marion fire chief Todd May.“Our prayers continue for him, his family, and all those affected.”
The Virginia State Police, Smyth County Sheriff’s Department, and Marion Police Department are investigating the incident.

I agree that a lot of our youth need some serious "therapy". More like some serious parenting. Its time for parents to stop being such good friends with their kids and raise them. Kids have no respect, nothing is real, or has consequences. I would have NEVER thought to put gas on a fire that could possibly harm someone. A) I had better sense, b) my parents would have beat my ass from one end of this town to the other, not counting sitting in court with me demanding I be punished legally. Kids are defended at every end, never facing reality until it is too late. They have no respect for human life, animal life, or each other. Just look around you at what has happened with the pycho babble generation. God forbid we upset little Johnny, by teaching him respect and integrity. I can not imagine laughing at a hurt individual, making rude comments, ect. I can not imagine saying, oh well he was a "nice" guy anyway- who cares. My first thought would be to try to help in some way. Scary how troubled some of these youth are now days.

Prayers for the young man and his family while he recovers. Burns are a painful painful thing, both when they occur and while healing. Does anyone have an update on how he is doing??

I went to high school with his sister and she says that he is doing ok and will be going home today. Still has a lot of recovering to do, though.
