Too good to work in fast food? Their money don't spend? Make more on welfare? If I needed a job, I would take anything until something better came along.

All of the ambulance companies are hiring up there....basic EMT's and up to Paramedics... pay range is probably 8-10/HR roughly.

Okay, thank you so much! I am getting ready to start a health care program & am looking for a job in the medical field. Once again, thank you for the info & for not having a smart response! Also, if it is any of anyone's business I am NOT on welfare!! I am looking for a better job than what I have now b/c it us in a factory & having to worry about being laid off constantly!

Pride? I think it's considered survival. How many grown ass adults can support a family off of $7.25 without welfare? I'm single and I couldn't even pay my rent, utilities, car insurance and gas, let alone have money for food on that. You can pretend all day long that it is honorable to work for minimum wage, but the truth is, tax-payers are still providing those workers with food stamps and low-cost apartments. IE. Our taxes are paying for cheap labor so corporations like Taco Bell can get rich while our people starve.

I swear someone can't even ask a simple ? to try and better themselves without having someone jumping in and opening their mouth and spilling out a pile of crap when they don't even know the persons reason for asking. Get a Life idiot not everyone is on welfare, Food Stamps, drugs. AND no not everyone can afford to ask everyone "if they'd like fries with that" SORRY get up with present time and stop living in the past when people could do that and actually survive!!!

Thank you for seeing my reason for dating other than fast food!!! Minimum wage is no where near enough money to survive & support a family on! I do not depend on anyone other than myself to support my family. Unlike several people in this town, I do NOT depend on the hard working tax payers to support me & my family, while I blow my money on everything!!

No problem, Smyth County is one of the worst for lazy people and not having anything else to do besides sit on their computer and try to degrade someone they don't even know.

EMT's making 8-11/hr and paramedics in the 13-16/hr range with all of the hours they can stand. No.shortage of hours. You can work overtime until you are blue in the face with most Ambulance Services. Trinity Ambulance, Richardson Ambulance, Abingdon Ambulance, Chilhowie Ambulance, Mercy Ambulance, Smyth County Ambulance and maybe others all operate in that area. Basic EMT is a short class normally hosted by a local rescue squad, or a 1 semester class at the local community college. Good luck to you.

Well I know alot of places that are hiring. I work at a location that is hiring. Problem is nobody can pass a drug test. So since Mcdonalds doesnt drug test maybe it is the only option for some. I would start at the un-employment board first...if you can pass the test.

Yes that is a good ideal, they will actually start hiring more for the Holidays. That's probably what they are starting to do, and yes since you are a college student they will set your schedule around your school time, I know cashiers did make more then Department/floor employees that's been a few yers ago so I'm sure it's still true, but the downfall of a cashier is you will certainly take a beating and hateful remarks from customers especially during the Holidays. The time you'd think people were jolly but really aren't LOL!!!

It can be done. I made around $800 a month at one point and lived completely on my own. I lived in an one-room apartment, chose not to have TV or internet, and switched to a prepaid phone. My car was paid off so I didnt have that to worry about, but still, I managed (and fairly comfortably) for six months. I saved for things I wanted. Now, I couldn't see raising a family on minimum wage but honestly it IS better than nothing.

Do not limit the job search to the Marion area. I found a job 300+ miles away from Marion mostly because of the negativity and self destructive behavior of my peers. Marion is a death trap, even for people like me with an engineering degree. The people I was around became a $100,000 liability because of tuition, on-campus housing, and other expenses. So i stopped talking to everyone I know in Marion and spent all of my time at the library looking for work. I used some brute force methods to get rid of all the bad influences (like blocking numbers on my phone).
