I have been seeing what appears to be a homeless man in town. Is he homeless? Will he accept any help? I see him mostly walking in front of Wal Mart and Sonic. Any one have any idea about this gentleman?

We all want to be compassionate and help those in need. But the guy who walks around in Marion, David, DOES NOT WANT HELP! There was just another call to police where someone ended up in a confrontation with him. He has family in town, and he has been checked out by social services, mental health, and law enforcement. He just chooses his nomadic lifestyle, and doesn't want food, clothes, money. Everyone who has offered, no matter how well meaning, has learned very quickly and in no uncertain terms. So if you're inclined, please donate to the local food pantry, Salvation Army, or charity of your choice

There is actually two, one wears the same dirty white t-shirt with black hoodie, an the other wears a huge winter green coat with camo pants believe his name is jerry as for help he does ask for $,cigs ect .. (been told not to leave car unattended).. As for the guy hanging near walmart wearing white I've offered him a few dollars but he refused it..some of the local restaurants give them food..neither one of these guys are allowed to purchase alcohol (there has to be some type of shelter the town of marion can help with)

I feel so bad for them both. The one gentleman in the white has no shoes on now. I wanted to stop and help but my husband told me not to unless I wanted rocks thrown at me.

There used to be a homeless shelter in Wytheville. But it closed. Now they go to HOPE or Mountain Cap and can get vouchers for a motel. At least that's what I was told. There is a church in Wytheville that helps with clothing. I also think there's a soup kitchen somewhere up there.

They really need to bring a shelter back to this area. Its hard to keep them open because of funding. I did help out some in wytheville, its amazing what some of these people go through and to hear their stories and talk to them, you know that they just need that extra step or push to get them back into society. Its a shame that we dont have that anymore. Ive helped some get settled into apartments, with food and living supplies, etc... And they are doing wonderful. As for the two men in town the one in black had jumped in front of someone i knows car and actually called me the devil because I tried to give him twenty bucks. And thr one in the red coat, he really is a sweetheart. He also accepts some help.

You know if the state does not, and the town does not want him having beer or wine, then get him off the street. In Washington state there are shelters for these people that do allow drinking as long as it keeps them in a safe place that if they do harm it is not to the public. If I am ever in this place (can happen to us all) that this guy is in, PLEASE let me have a beer or bottle of wine. What about his rights????

Soooo, how do you propose "getting him off the street"? Lock him in jail because he wears a big coat??? Those shelters are called "flop houses" and neighbors complain because of the activity associated with the residents. If you're so concerned, let him stay in your spare bedroom and stock the fridge for him.

When I was growing up, people like that were called"Bums","H obos" "Derelicts"
Today they are called "Homeless"
When will we be politically correct and call them "Outdoorsmen"?

Leave them alone, so what if they want a little booze once in awhile, who are they hurting?

Why do people want to impose their values and lifestyle on others? If someone wants to live differently, it's none of our business. It reminds me of the man who lived in a tent at exit 50. He was simply living as he wished. I also don't see how an adult can be forbidden from buying beer. I think that is an unfounded rumor. The homeless or poor have the right to live their life as they wish.

Adults can live however, wherever they want as long as they understand what they are doing. My adult son gave a bag of groceries to this dirty one and he refused it, told him off, and ran away. I don't know what he eats or where he sleeps but he obviously doesn't appreciate us trying to find out.

How would a cashier know who is on a 'don't sell to list'? If a person is over 21, and has identification why would you not sell alcohol to them?

Yep. And women that had kids out of wedlock were called whores....and their kids were called bastards....now they're called "Single Mothers" and the kids are called "Love Children". We don't have a name for a deadbeat piece of crap father.....at least I don't know of one. But when you think about it.....does the Mother, or Father really want this? Hell.....if they found the piece of crap Dad....then the piece of crap Mother would be kicked off the welfare list. I think these people....OH HELL,I know these Vermin work the system and it's there for the taking....as long as we dumb asses put up with it. It's not only the so called poor....take time to look around...there's some of your neighbors that don't seem to be up against it, that take advantage too. But I shouldn't be talking on here....because I just say too damn many mean things. It's called the "TRUTH".....pussies.
