i just wanted t let everyone know to be careful if u take your pets to scah. my motherin law took her dog there and they wouldnt perform the c-sectin to remove the dead puppies and just wanted to give her the shot to deliver the puppies on her own. which in return her dog gave birth and then died from complications after she gave birth.

I know one thing... They charge an arm and a leg. Very expensive.

All this bunch is interested in is the money. They are not concerned about your pet but are concerned about how much money they can get out of you.

I think they care about the animals but they are not the type that would let you charge a bill, or would take some stray dog in with a broken leg and just "take care of it" with no one willing to pay for it. They aren't owned by a large parent company and they don't have "charity funds". I think the animals that do come in there, they care for them. I don't use them because like someone said, they are too high for me. Doesn't mean I love my pet less for going elsewhere but more expensive doesn't mean they are better. They have fees and licenses to pay and insurance and several employees. Ultimately if someone doesn't like the care they are receiving (give the dog a shot and not a c-section) then they could have drove up or down the road 30 minutes and got a different doctor with a different plan. If they had been dead inside the dog long enough to get to SCAH then she probably could have held out an additional 30 minutes (as people carry dead babies around for weeks sometimes not realizing it's dead). Things go wrong in surgery for both humans and animals and I doubt you will be able to sue or our community hospital wouldn't be in existence today.

I understand charging reasonable fees, but have you ever taken your pet there? It costs more than taking one of my kids to the ER! They refuse to even consider offering emergency after hours calls, period. If you board with them, they have no provisions for pickup after 12 on Saturday or any time on Sunday, so if you go on vacation, cut it short or you pay two extra days (not that we can afford that anymore). The girls are sweet, but the owners are set on making a killing off everybody that comes through the door, because they're the only one in the county. Gouging. The big one in Abingdon isn't a chain, but they have a huge workforce, have people that are there 24 hours a day, and are cheaper than Smyth County's. I wonder if hey even check on the animals overnight or on weekends. If they do, why wouldn't they allow pickups? The owners have learned the Smyth County way - if you're the only one, stick it to the public.
