I lived there for 22 yrs. It has always had it's problems but much more rampant lately. It's basically a quagmire now. I would suggest moving outside of Marion. maybe Delaware or out toward Caledonia. I would strongly deter anyone from moving to Marion.

I was born and raised in Marion, and moved 10 years ago. It has gotten progressively worse, every time I visit, it makes me sad. Growing up there does nothing good for a person. I always knew it wasn't right there, but only after moving and living in other places do I see how awful it is. Crime, poor education, people are just angry, it's dirty and if you really want info, look up the problem they had with cancer due to the military using it as a nuclear dumping ground. Marion has a rich and interesting history, and had potential to be a great place. However, it missed something, somewhere and just went downhill.

I would suggest to stay out of marion city schools, unless you want to pay tuition at st Mary's. pleasant local schools district is solid just south of town. If you head further south, Delaware county's 4 school districts are all "excellent with distinction". None of the marion county schools have reached that level. Buckeye valley is in northern Delaware county and Delaware city is great as well. Although there is a cost difference going from marion to Delaware so keep that in mind. Happy hunting.

Marion is getting a bad reputation for heroin. There are no jobs locally. Marion is an old industrial town that is in decay and getting worse. I think most people are moving away and there are very few new people moving in. Probably not a good place to plan your future - just my unbiased opinion after 30 years here.
