There is no speed enforcement on the roads in Marion. The posted speed limit is 45 mph on Smith rd. and 30 mph on Newark-Marion rd. Cars and trucks drive 15, 20 and 30 MPH over the speed limit in the area ALL the time. The community of Marion can all take some blame for this young girls death.

it's spring, lots of things for young people to do. places to go, please tell your kids to buckle up, and no texting or phone calls while driving, no parent wants to have to bury their son or daughter.

Sadly if she was thrown from the car she probably did not have a seat belt on. Not sure how anyone is to blame for that.

what i think is that u should probley keep the comments to your self what if the family reads this and u r telling them its the towns fault and they r part of the town so it their fault no! they dont know the cause yet and it is a proven fact that even if u have ur seat belt on u can still be thrown out of the car.just saying think of they way u think about things before you write them where anyone in the world can read them.

Just because there is no speed enforcement in the town of Marion does not mean that the town is at fault for the death of this individual. There are suggested speed limits posted. Drivers are the ones who decide how fast they want go and when they want to slow down. There is nothing there that specifically says "drive faster here". It is all up the driver as to how fast that they drive, nobody can influence their speed except for them.

Let me try to explain. The community of Marion needs to stand together and demand the speed limits be enforced. They can do that by calling 946-xxxx. Parents need to set an example as well. Tell your kids to wear seat belts and drive the speed limit. If you are not familiar with Marion. Driving 65 mph through a 30 mph residential area is normal here. Also my prayers go out to the Fagan family for there lost.

I never knew that a posted speed sign was the suggested rate. When I got my license, I was told posted speed signs was the speed. Just like stop signs mean STOP not roll thru.

I agree. WTF ???

I know today we were on 390. Had a little yellow car that was swerving from one lane to another with a young girl driving.

We happened to pass her up - guess what she had on her steering wheel ?

YUP- she was texting away and at one point went off the side of the road alittle bit. IF there was a car there, she would of sideswiped it.

I'm not saying this is what that young girl Amanda was doing. NOT AT ALL.

I just wish the kids would be more careful and aware of the driving dangers out there.

My condolences to the family. No matter why it happened, it happened and as a parent of a teen that age. My heart goes to her family.

As A past medic on an ambulance corp, i have seen people die with there seatbelts on and most of the time your cutting them off of the people that u are pulling from the car, so yeah everyone should wear their seatbelts it's NYS Law. My husband is taking the emt class. and Hes even told me that people can die in a car accident wearing there seatbelts, b/c he had one person die infront of him, and he was wearing his seatbelt maybe she wasn't wearing it maybe she was who knows, I would Personally reather die with my seatbelt on and then not have my seatbelt on. Yes you can get throwen from a car while wearing your seatbelt it's been Prooven, so come on i know that Some people Dont wear there seatbelts and they sometimes dont get caught but they should be Caught, i am sorry but it is NYS law to wear your seatbelt even in the back seat yea the Age for the back seat is 18 unless it has went up, but still i demand that when people ride with me that they wear there seat belts in the back seat.
