Hey, I heard a rumor that this place was closing after this weekend. Any truth to that?

they need a week to clean that dirty place , and they need a kitchen and someway to keep red necks from standing around the outside of the front doors

They should move across the street plenty of room and could smoke in alley. They wouldn't have to put the band in the window.

From their facebook page:

"Main Street pub is now CLOSED and under new leadership. It will reopen in 2-3 weeks under a new name and remodeled so everyone get ready for a BIG change. Thanks to all that came out and I am sure our last night will be talked about for a long time and remembered by those there for many years"

How any business starts is how they're going to end. The clientele they market themselves to and the atmosphere they create will stick with them be it good or bad. Unfortunately for the Pub it contributed to their demise. Hopefully the new owners will make a go of it.

I got a crazy suggestion for the new management...drop the focus on alcohol and just make it an restaruant that people who spend time on Main Street would actually walk in and visit?

How innovative would that be!

The city has had LBT long enough and enough places have opened to where the demand is no longer there for an establishment to need a LBT license.

Just serve quality food!

first off, the person before me is an idiot. That building doesnt have the kitchen necessary for a resturaunt. Second, we need a decent pub. The pub started off with a good plan and a great idea. What happened was, the owner got greedy and ran that place into the ground. Her and her weird ass situation, where everyone lives in her house and sleeps with her and her girlfriend and husband, those are the people who ran everyone decent off. The place quickly went from a quaint pub to the local Redneck Rollaround. Nothing but trashy broke ass people starting fights and being an eyesore. Food sucked, overpriced shitty drinks, and last I saw, there were 13 empty taps. Good riddance, and good luck to whoever bought it. Ill support them and visit when they open, hopefully they will keep the place clean and decent..and keep carla and her nasty gang of former no_good losers out of there.

First off... I'm not an idiot, I'm just smarter than you

Second, that place does not need a huge ass kitchen in it to be successful. Ask the folks at After 5, they seemed to have managed just fine in their limited space.

Third, I'm tired of hearing people bitch that they want a good pub...you can't have a good pub without at least decent food. Of all the bars in this town, and I'll name them for ya because I've been to them all...(Pizza Joint, Vortex, Main Street, After 5, Appalachian) the ones who are most successful are the ones with solid food and a positive environment. More times than not, good food and a good atmosphere usually yields a good pub, it does not work the other way around as many around here think it does.

Of the ones listed After 5 and Appalachian are the only two in this town that fits the criteria...and to no surprise when you drive by those two places, their parking lot is usually full or half-full at the worst. The others I have listed either has shady clientele and/or musical acts on a nightly basis...that combination usually results in bad stuff!
Biker Bar

I heard the new owner was going to turn it into a "biker bar". That ought to go well in Marion, and on Main Street.
So...a "bar" has to have good food to be a successful bar? I thought bars were normally for people to go and have some drinks, enjoy the company and atmosphere.....and MAYBE have some decent food. They might as well just be a restaurant that serves drinks.

Bars are usually successful when they can attract a large and/or diverse crowd.

As an owner when your only calling card is just beer and liquor, that automatically limits who is going to patronize your establishment. So when you all have is the same dozen to two dozen people in your bar it quickly become a self-limiting process.

When I go to a bar, I don't want to see the same people every time I go, that shit gets old, quick.

So yes, having at the worst decent pub food does nothing but help you as an owner, it surely cannot hurt you!

Im not talking about the size of the kitchen. They have two conduction plates and a panini grill. But im guessing the food wont matter because if its a 'biker bar' then nobody but the wannabe bullies and their wrinkly over-tattooed bitches will grunt fart and run off any decent customers.

Oh well.

i was a regular at the pub for quite a while. My friends and I were there every Friday or Saturday night. The first few years they were open, i was not uncomfortable going in there by myself. That all changed when Carla and Kristy had to quit bartending on the weekends due to different health issues. When they left, things went downhill. I hate to see any business close but I understand why they did. People don't know the whole story so they need to quit making up BS. With that being said, I wish the new owners the best of luck.

I agree with you regarding the size of the kitchen. You can do alot in a small amount of space. What many people do not realize is these places have to sell food. They are required to have 30% of their overall sales from food. If they are not selling "decent food" then there is no way they will be able to maintain the 30% required to stay open.
