I posted this thread Friday 11/26 but it has been removed. So here is a heads up. You keep removing it and I will keep posting it again! A friend of mine owed me some money and wrote a check on his Fifth Third Bank Account. On Friday i went to the local branch to have it cashed. I was informed by the teller that I would be charged an $8.00 fee due to me not being an account holder at Fifth Third Bank! The man who wrote the check was however I was expected to pay $8.00. I took the check and left. I called back later to speak with the Branch Manager who informed me it was a "Service Fee" for them cashing the check. She then informed me that every other bank in McDowell County did the same thing however I have recently had checks cashed at some of the banks she mentioned and was not charged $8.00. Once home I have done a little research on Fifth Third bank and there are many complaints registered with Consumer websites, check for your self. I had posted a link in my earlier post so I suppose that is the reason for its removal. This is robbery to punish someone who takes a check from one of their account holder. From now on, I will not accept a check from a Fifth Third Bank account holder without adding an $8.00 "Service Fee" for my troubles.

I too left fifth third when it changed over from First Charter. My reason was the business fees. They went out the roof and nothing was free anymore. Went to Mountain 1st and they have kept their word so far. Been more than satisfied.

what you are saying. But please understand that the local employees have no discretion on what to do. They are told by corporate just like BOA, Wells Fargo/Wachovia First Citizens etc. I took a check to Wachovia and had to pay $5 or $6 to get it cashed back this summer because I don't bank there. It was worth $6 to me that one time because I did not deposit the check fearing it would bounce. If you are in business then you have had the same thing happen-worrying about a check not clearing and willing to pay a fee to get your money. I don't like it but that is the way it is sometimes.

not the way it is at Mountain 1st, SECU, Cornerstone, or First Citizens. I have had them all cash checks drawn on their banks with no account at any of them over the past 6 months or so.

I am in no way blaming the employees but if you will research this bank online you will find that they are basically scam artist. I would post the link but it would be removed i'm sure. Just type in "Fifth Third Bank Complaints" into the search engine that rhymes with OOGLE and you will find out yourself. Mybe this post will not be deleted since I mention no website in particular.

save the headaches move all your accounts from fifth third (crazy name for a bank anyway, right?)

move your money to Mountain 1st and see what it is like to be treated fairly and like they care about having your business!

you will not be disappointed

I went to fifth third and presented them with a check that was drawn on their bank. I have never heard of a bank charging to cash a check which is drawn on their bank. Isn't a check a demand for payment? I wonder if this is legal?

any charges for the process of cashing a check should be the responsibility of the issuer and/or their bank.

if someone still wants to write you a check in this electronic age they should have to shoulder the fees for that check

Why don't you just deposit or cash the check at your bank? Stop bitching about it and just go to your bank please. Y'all sound sooooooo ridiculous.

I don't know about every bank, but if I take a check written from someone using another bank, they put a hold on the check until it clears.

The information on this linkis true. i use to bank with them thry would hold deposits till withdraws came out even if I deposited the money a day or more before I used my atm card. That was the whole reason we changed banks.
