Many people believe we are on the verge of destruction. What are your thoughts on the prophecies surrounding the date Dec. 21 2012?

Those prophecies are a bunch of bologna! As it says in the Bible we do not know the day nor the time that Jesus will return. So unless these people that make the prophecies have access to heaven that Christians don't have, and overheard Jesus setting a date, these things are BOLOGNA!

The bible says " no one knows the day or the hour the son of man cometh" that is not saying we cannot predict the day or the hour of major planetary catastrophes. Besides, Jesus also said "we should watch for the signs of his coming lest that day take us as a thief in the night."These prophecies are not referring to the rapture of the saints, they are referring to major shifts in the environment, gravitational pull, planetary alignment etc. For the record we can have major catastrophes and large loss of life, without the return of Christ. For example tsunami's, hurricanes, drought, disease, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, asteroid strikes just to name a few. The Bible's book of Revelation also speaks of the same planetary devestation as alot of these prophecies. Depending on which view of the scriptures you take, the rapture could happen before or after these events take place.

I don't get all hung up on "when" and "where" the end will come. It will come.

The only thing we need to do is be ready. If you are ready, don't worry. Nothing will change for the true believers.

I do feel sorry for those that do not believe though. At least for the majority of them. Some of them deserve what they get in the end.

I am a born again christian. I went to New Manna in the late 70s and in the 80s. I heard the rapture almost every week. Guess what? We're still here. I have not discounted the Bible, but sure have fundamentalism! To me is full of crazies! The pressure put forth in these churches is absurd. And the sin that goes on is astounding. Same old stuff, gag at a nat and swallow a camel. Adultery, fornication, kids born out of wed lock every where, but don't forget to hand out that gospel tract and be here every time the doors are open. You can have that, I don't want it. There is something to 2012, if you are a christian or not. I believe the Bible, but there are alot of things going on that is not preached in churches. I'm still waiten on Jesus.

Guess I posed the question in the wrong town, I wasn't looking to have a discussion on religion. I was looking for intelligent views on the possibility of planetary catastrophes in the near future. I too am a believer in Christ, however when I hear a thunderstorm warning I go inside not thinking my salvation will keep me from getting struck by lightning.

It's interesting that not only the Mayan Indians but other native peoples around the world all point to that date. Coincidence?

Oh, and I too am a Christian but don't believe that only the church can point to the day of reckoning. God speaks to everyone.

You're in Mac freekn dowel. Whada expect?

The Mayan's calendar was based on "x" number of years then a "rebirth" came about. Some theorists believe 12/21/2012 is the end of one of the Mayan’s cycles and the “rebirth” of a new cycle will begin on 12/22/2012. Guess we will all have to wait and see. There was a “millennium” theory too, but we are all still here.

Very simple. the sun will go into the 13th sign of the zodiac.(Ophiuchus)(Ophiuchus is an Ancient Greek constellation. The Serpent Bearer is one of the original Ptolemy constellations, appearing in Al Magest Star Catalogue [c 130 - 170 AD]. He also appears on the Farnese Globe, a Roman copy of a circa 2nd century BC depiction of Atlas holding the Celestial Sphere above his head.)
Now what will happen the scientist can only estimate because the last time this happened was when the dinos walked the earth AND YES they did walk this earth!

With that being said the physical changes are going to happen and you can view them at this website. http://www.dailycommonsense.com/what-is-that-...

Think of it like this. We have created a massive mess on this earth and have damaged it almost beyond repair so in 2012 the earth is going to change and those who can adapt will survive it and those who can not will not. Is it the end of the earth and mankind? NO don;t think so but definitely an end to the life as we know it now.

So all the prophets may be right as far as they could see but remember they predicted using the stars and what they saw was something they have never seen before--- ie ... the sun going into the 13th sign and throwing us into complete darkness apparently for at least a week or more.. what will this do to our communications? our electrical grid? our military? and how many will feel or believe this is the end of life?

No politics or religion brought into it simply facts..

New voice, best post to this discussion so far.I believe that if the earth's crust shifts around the earth's mantle the 33 degrees scientist are saying could happen. The entire planet will be in chaos.I believe the panic that would ensue from such an event, as total darkness or loss of power for an extended period, could be devastating in itself. From what I have read on the subject, many scientists are in agreement this has probably happened before and may have been what originally separated the continents from Pangaea. Also the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions from such an event could render significant loss of life on a global scale.Good to hear an intelligent post on the subject.

There is also the fact that the ice caps melting at the rate they are doing so right now could cause a massive flooding of the islands, and any land mass that is at or below see level.. ie Florida, Hawaii, and so forth. If one is to believe Edgar Cayce and his predictions such as:

The ocean level will rise significantly

With the shifting of the Earth's magnetic poles that began in 1998 will come a gradual melting of the polar ice caps and eventually cause inundations of many coastal regions resulting in a drop in the landmass of about 30 feet. In 1941, Cayce elaborated on this effect:

"As to conditions in the geography of the world, of the country -- changes here are gradually coming about ... For, many portions of the east coast will be disturbed, as well as many portions of the west coast, as well as the central portion of the U.S. In the next few years land will appear in the Atlantic as well as in the Pacific. And what is the coast line now of many a land will be the bed of the ocean. Even many battle fields of the present will be ocean, will be the seas, the bays, the lands over which The New World Order will carry on their trade as one with another."

Dramatic changes in coastlines around the world

Due to the shifting of the Earth's magnetic poles and natural disasters, dramatic changes such as this will occur:

"The Earth will be broken up in the western portion of America. The greater portion of Japan must go into the sea. The upper portion of Europe will be changed as in the twinkling of an eye. Land will appear off the east coast of America. When there is the first breaking up of some conditions in the South Sea and those as apparent in the sinking or rising of that that's almost opposite same, or in the Mediterranean, and the Etna area, then we many know it has begun."

Interesting note: In 1991, a series of natural disturbances occurred following the eruption of Mount Etna in Sicily. Soon after the eruption of Mount Etna, volcanic eruptions occurred in the Philippines. These events may not be a fulfillment of Cayce's prediction, but they may be a harbinger of greater Earth changes.

http://www.near-death.com/experiences/cayce11...

so yes something is going to happen and if Edgar Cayce was not only acknowledged by our government but used to aid in many things. A very remarkable man but to believe in him is to believe everything he has predicted and if all is to come true we here in McDowell County will be under water as I recall he predicts that the waters will flow up into the Carolina's and one will not be safe until they reach the hills/mountains of Virginia and or West Virginia.
I truly hope this is one he got wrong.
