New Manna is an Independent Baptist Church. They believe non-Christian music is a sin to listen to, and only KJV Bibles are the "right" Bible. They have a Christian school, a youth camp, and a bookstore. The church has some nice people in it, but they have had some significant problems in the past with their leaders.

I went there for several years, but I've come to disagree with some of their doctrines and legalism. I have a hard time believing that only the Independent Fundamental Baptist churches are right, as they seemed to insinuate. And they have mocked non-IFB churches/preachers before, which I don't think is right. They also have a lot of emotionalism there. I hate to criticize, because they aren't a bad church and I learned a lot about God while I was there. There are many nice people there, and they do a lot to help people. I just feel they are too legalistic.

They like to interrupt you and give you a tract while you're eating dinner at local restaurants on Wednesday nights, when you're not "attending their church".

They also like you advertise that they'd like you to check out "their" scripture... whatever that means.

The best way to find out is to visit. I don't go there, but I have my opinion as many others will too. Past problems have turned a lot of people away from there. Any organized religion has their own theory and philosophy and most churches who are part of an organized religion have to follow the rules passed down by the organization.

I find it odd that they think listening to non Christian music is a sin, but a lot of them smoke and according to The Bible your body is a temple and you are to treat it as one.

I've been there many, many times, over the past 30 years. I agree there are a lot of people there who believe they are doing what is right and if it works for them I think that's great. I'm sure I'll get blasted for my comment but I'm just telling you my experience of the church.

I guess it really depends on what you are looking for. If you don't buy everything that you hear because "the preacher said so" it might not be for you. I personally find it very narrow in that there seems to be little tolerance for people who believe something slightly different than what they do and they seem to discourage people thinking for themselves - do as the leadership says and don't look into facts for yourself. I also find it very clique-ish........understandab le if you want to keep the place status-quo.

I guess the God I signed up for is more interested in what we've agreed than in me sitting on Sunday with folks who seem (to me!) to be quite willing to pass judgement.

Thanks for the info and comments. I was looking into hiring a young lady who is very involved in the church to watch my children and was kinda wondering what the church was about cause I had heard it was contraversal.

Actually Rhonda she is right, If you are a member of a Baptist...Methodist...Pentecos tal...Presbyterian...Catholic or any of the established Churches and you follow their teachings. Then you have in fact chosen what kind of God you want to believe in.

I do know for a fact there are people who go there that are not law abiding citizens. Does this church condone men who beat their women? Do they also condone liars and cheats? There is a couple there that have small children and turn their noses up at the law. The woman is a narsicist and habitual liar and the man is a domestic violence abuser. They may fit right in to this cult!

That actually does make sense. The term "signing up" just sounds weird when referring to God.

I believe people have had this option since the dawn of time. People may not choose to worship the way that you'd like but isn't it a blessing that you don't have the burden of deciding for everyone?

it's on east court street and it's a controversial as any other church around here. topix isn't the best place to get a good opinion on anything...especially a church in this county. I would try it

You do "sign up" when you become a member of any organized religion. Your name is sent in to their main office so they can calculate how many members they have.
