Did McDowell Twin Cinema go ahead and shut down here with the New Year? There is nothing on the signs and the inside looks empty...I knew they were having problems raising money to buy new projectors. It's just very unfortunate that this town does not have a movie theater any more...some one or some group should go in and get theater (franchise) opened up.

There is ony one reason that mcdowell will get another theater: Theaters fron surrounding counties pull money together to keep mcdowell trash in mcdowell.

A theater in McDowell County would be a terrible investment.

If they needed money to update why not take out a loan from a bank like other businesses do?

That movie theater was awful anyway. It was not up to date with the other movie theaters. Marion needs a bigger better theater anyway. Glad they closed.

They didn't want to do that. They were looking for handouts in order to upgrade their projectors so that they could keep charging people money. Good riddance. Time for someone to step in with a serious business plan for a theater.

Exactly, with all the big bucks they made off popcorn, drinks and candy they should have had state of the art equipment, it was outrageous to take a family there, the quality was so poor, the place was run down and nast!!

fact: the owner was offered a plan that would have cost him a fraction of the cost that was mentioned in the newspaper story, he refused. wonder what happened to the money that was raised at the hamburger sale they put on? all you folks that paid to see the new hobbit film over the holiday, paid for a family vacation. i don't understand he did not have to pay employees, and got an outrageous amount for concessions. guess they just did not want to do it anymore

He probably never had any interest in keeping it open. There's something to be said about a person that panhandles to keep a business open, never once using their own money or trying to get a bank loan. Now all that is left is to sell the land and the building, which I'd guess is worth quite a bit considering its' location. The biggest problem with businesses in this town is that they're all too lazy to get up off of their asses to try to turn a profit. This is the most asinine thing I've read about in a long time.
