Take the cost of laying sod on the field every spring...combined with the cost of using city water to keep the grass growing...and then add on the costs of paint for marking the field for 3 different sports (football, men's and women's soccer)...

Multiply that 10x (the number of years that the turf is guaranteed) and then lets determine if it's really a waste of money.

We won't be getting this nor need it. We don't have a football team good enough to use this expensive turf.

That's like buying a kid an expensive and powerful computer just to visit Facebook and type papers. Until he has a need for it and can use it effectively, he makes do with what he has.

Agree with u coop. Athletic dept needs to stop blaming everything else and get a coach or coaches in to start winning and bringing the level of McDowell football back to what it once was. Field will not fix the problems or make them go away.

I guess you two jerks missed last year's season. We lost the first 3 games by an extra point kick. We won several games, including homecoming, because we had so much heart. I've been going to high school football games for 20 years and I've never seen a team overcome as much adversity as this one did. This year's team deserves more than a new field. They deserve NEW EQUIPMENT, a new field house, new restroom facilities, a new press box, and the support of this county. They get out there and play with all their hearts for a coach they all despise just because they love the game. The play calling sucks as bad as anything could possibly suck and those boys deal with it the best they can and give it all they've got. The team didn't lose a single game this year. Every game we lost was due to bad coaching decisions, including the one in overtime where they gave the ball to a kid who everyone knew would fumble it. The coach may not deserve it, but those kids sure as heck do. I guarantee you the money spent for the Titan Football team will be less waste of money than the sidewalk crap on main street so go run your mouths about that mess.

I'm sorry you're mad, but "those kids" will be gone in a year or two, the cost of the field will still be with us.

Okay? So with that logic, since I only had two fender benders last year and not two full awful wrecks, I still should get a $200k car and the support of my insurance company to HOPEFULLY not wreck it?

Then blame it on the manufacturer for me wrecking it?

Dude your logic sucks. How are you saying that money spent on a sport is greater than the economical and presentational benefit of improving our city as a whole? Seems like you're just jealous that you're not getting a new field.

They will be gone but there are kids on the way that deserve good stuff too. Hopefully the team will build on this years success and continue in the right direction. Both East and West have talent and size they just need to be properly motivated and coached and the future could be bright for the Titans. The youth league is full of talented youngsters also. Every cent that is put into these programs is worth it. It would be nice to have a new turf but it would be nicer if the community would rally behind these kids and continue the work this years fine bunch of young men started. Ultimately we can have a program that we can be proud of.

This is what I was going to say. Let's see the facts regarding the funds spent over 10 years to maintain what we have and compare that with the cost of the new turf. If funds will be saved, that very well could be a good use of funds. If funds will not be saved, then maybe do not spend the money that way. I don't quite know why that concept is so foreign to many.

Use the money to hire a coaching staff that will start a program the county can be proud of year in and year out..you do that the people will come ..then you can have the best fascilities around..one thing I know from following titan football..you put a winner on the field and the people will fill that stadium full every week..so quit putting the cart before the horse..

I don't give a damn if the titans were state champs the past 10 years they don't need a 650 thousand dollar fake grass field...they can't take care of the field they have now...you are either kin to the idiot coaches or a rep for the astro turf company...but i'm guessing your a member in good standing in the Sandusky Shower Club...best thing you can do is shut the fcuk up moron.

I was there last season to witness and its not even remotely a start. You have to look at averages and sooner or later they had to win some. Winning a few games does not justify a great program. Do you actually think that Coach K or even Ken Ford for that matter would be happy with winning some games every 4th season or so? Get better coaching across the board, build the program with fundamentals and the players won't care if they are playing on concrete each week. Sure they deserve good things but don't reward an inadequate coaching display with shiny new toys. Reward them after results warrant it. McDowell should offer whatever amount of money it takes to get Ken Ford out of Owen and back to McDowell even if only for a four or five year stint to correct coaching issues and concerns to make McDowell a formidable force once again
