It is my understanding that as part of Mr Garrett's terms of employment set forth in his contracrt he must reside within the geographical boundaries of McDowell county. My question is does anyone know if he has completed this and whether or not he is relocating his family as well or leaving them in their current location?

Hmm. I am totally clueless about your question but it does seem logical that the supt in charge of a whole county school system should live there

I agree he is better than the last supt. for sure. We are talking about the highest paid education perfessional in the county so I don't think it too much to ask him to live here. Also if he does not have enough confidence in this county's school system to put his kids here that should worry all people who do have kids in the public system.

At his swearing in ceremony, he told everyone he is looking for a house in Marion and his kids will be in McDowell County schools next year. It is a requirement as a superintendant. For so many worried about education these days, try educating yourselves instead of posting topics you know nothing about. No wonder people think so badly about this place with the idiots running rampid.

If teachers and other administrators are allowed to live outside of McDowell then it is only fair if he can too. It isn't a big deal! He is great at his job, so why push such a stupid issue? He is more of a "local" then some of our own locals. Meaning - he knows more about our community than most that have lived here all their lives.

You make the statement that teachers and other administrators live outside the county so we shouldn't make a big deal of it. First off it is not spelled out in other contracts that they must live in the county but it is spelled out in his, therefore he has agreed to those terms of employment. Also I would personally be in favor of requiring all contractually bound employees to live in the county I feel that this would make all teachers and administrators more invested in our community.

He has no intention of moving his family here. His wife and kids will be in Watauga . He'll rent a place or apartment to meet the letter of the law.
But what's He done so far different from Martin? He created a job for Brookie and has let Oliver start bringing in his people.
Same stuff, new faces, get used to it.

I am not sure I would go so far as to liken him to Martin but I am seeing that it is business as usual and seems the board is either oblivious or does not care. Guess we shouldn't be surprised with the board. With a couple not even seeking reelection and another strongly alluding to the fact that they will not seek reelection when their term expires looks like everyone figures that it is to far gone to get back. Really should not suprise us that so many are in favor of school vouchers and private schools.
