I posted this question under my "Lipitor" thread but no one saw it. But.........has anyone had sucess with Chromium for weight loss? Supposedly it takes away your "cravings". for sugar, starches, etc. I'm off the lipitor and on a steady diet of olive oil, omega 3's and of corse Red Wine! Hopefully eating better and exercising more AND using this ChromeMate (brand name) I will reduce my wieght AND numbers. Has anyone heard of it?

I have a little reading up on this, and scientific findings are mixed. Nonetheless, chromium is a metal that is required in our bodies in trace amounts. Some people have high cholesterol due to a chromium deficiency but this does not mean that everyone with high cholesterol should run out and take a chromium supplement. You should always consult your doctor before trying to treat a condition as serious as high cholesterol. Anyway, it is known that chromium enhances glucose metabolism. This has lead to the idea ( which has NOT been efficiently tested) that it could help with weight loss and/or diabetes. Importantly, however, a study published in 2008 has shown ( in clinical trials) that chromium will NOT produce sustained weight loss. Therefore, I would urge you be VERY carfeul, these supplements are not well understood and may work on an individual basis, but also may lead to detrimental side effects (if you take too much) or no effects at all. In addition, unless you are severely deficient in chromium, you should be getting plenty if you eat healthy. Some foods that contain it are: broccoli, turkey, potatoes, oranges, apples, bananas..etc.

And by the way... a glass of red wine has between 1 and 13 micrograms of chromium in it! That's halve the recommended daily dose for a woman (around 25 micrograms/day) and a little more than a third needed for a man ( around 35 micrograms/day)

Do you have stock in the company or are you just a distributor?
Either way, quit talking to yourself. We aren't ALL stupid.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Virgo

Words are flying around in all directions today, and the conversations will be fast and furious. You might face a lot of distractions and interruptions, or you could get caught up in some rather irritable slanging matches with a certain person. The busier you are, the more fraught you'll become and the more likely to go off the deep end.
