McDowell News Sunday June 23, 2013 article about the old Marion Theater, once used by Belks and now a church. In the article segregation was being discussed as the theater was divided between the races. A family member of the former owner said he (former owner) "seemed to be as sad about the history as I was. That doesn't surprise me, as he served the Democratic Party for many years before he was called to serve on the Board of Elections" Question- Was he sad because the Democrats were the Segregationists? I knew the man and he was a fine gentleman. The Democrats were the founders and perpetrators of segregation but I don't believe he (Mr. House) believed that it was right. It was just the policy of the Democrats and you don't have to believe in every policy of a Party to be a member.
