Just curious to see if anyone has any information on the "Cult" or whatever it was years ago, I've heard stories that it was in the woodlawn area in that rock building. I would love to here some interesting stories about it.
You want to talk about cults.....these "Word of Faith" freaks are the biggest idiots I have ever encountered....if this is religion....the woods are full of them!!!

The one in Spindale is Word of Faith Fellowship...Lots of stories from people who came out of that place. I've read that they aren't allowed to watch any tv or read any newspapers. All they know comes from their preacher.

That's what I've heard too. They silently lure you in, then get you working in one of the church member's businesses... living in their apartments / houses..

It's like a cult/commune mix.

I was in Florida with them in one of their houses then onto NC. Some fine folks in Marion. After being with them for over a year and building most of their 'compound' in Ashford,NC, I left. They were a bit legalistic, but I never say the atrocities they were continuously accused of. They were however talking about things like the Mayan 2012 'party gone wrong' scenario long before it was cool and TV worthy.

I used to work with a guy that was in the Word of Faith and he told me that he had to ask the preacher's permission each and every time he wanted to have sex with his wife. He was a strange person.

I would like to find any documented truth, pictures, articles and any news on that 1970-80s Bible group in Ashford by the train overpass. I have been looking for years. I also would like to find the location of Sappio. Any help?

If he wanted to have sex with his wife(the preachers) it was the only thing to do. A real man always ask, if Cain had asked someone if he could play around, he would probably be still running for president.

You are a very polite person. If you are a woman I would say "Mother may I", just like that childhood game!

I was in that cult & a lot of the stuff about baby killings & keeping kids in cages was not true! I left not out of fear, but because I refused to be controlled by Ben Sapio or anyone else. There was a lot of things going on that was not right at all. I could tell or write a long story about my 4 years with them. Yes, they were a cult. I am not in touch with other members & have not been since I left in 1978. When I left, I saw the deal about Jim Jones. Now, that scared me because The Way, The Truth & The Life were set up much like that. Two differences-1) We were in the U.S. & 2)- We lived much nicer & some of us had outside jobs (although all our money except for a few dollars went into the building of it. Any questions? Later- this chapter of my life is over!!!!!!

To: The One Way Place; Ben Sapio lives in Coral Gables, Fla. where he started from. I don't know if his wife is still alive. I looked on the internet & found him. He has a shady past history. I, too have been looking for anything on it when it was in the Ashford Community. All I can find is one article from Florida.(Put in his name). Some people think I am nuts & the place never existed. I need proof, proof so I can write my biography about life there inside of the way..... If anyone finds anything- please post it for me. Thanks!

I wonder if it is some of the same from the way after all these years? They did branch out while I was with them. Let me know if you get any names.

Does this mean you are interested? Was a part of it? or do I denote some personal issues? Sorry if you are off-set by all of this. I am just trying to raise a little awareness on the subject since I have first-hand experience. There are still many cults alive and more showing up every day. Bad things do happen to good people. Thanks for replying. Sincerly.

I started this thread in 2008, and am very interested in the topic. I don't have any useful information nor proof of it's existence, but want to learn as much as I can about it.

Word of Faith fellowship in Spindale seems very much similar to this.

Any information you want to post about your past, I would be very interested.

You could talk to people that lived in this county when it was here. My mom has told me stories about how the followers would act while they were in town.

Jerry Hunter DID NOT start the WTL. Ben Sapio started it in Opa Locka,Florida. He is a old & broken man now. People use to get us confused with the "WAY." Two different cults altogether. People have heard so much gossip, that the stories have gotten bigger & BIGGER over the years. I should know the truth of it all. I was in The WTL. People should not talk about things they do not know.
