I know this isn't the best place for advice, but I'm needing some help! Don't need no judgeing or criticism ... I am kicking a opiate addiction, and as I know its a problem around here, I am.not a druggy buying off street.... I was in a serious bad car wreck, and very messed up from it, and as I should stay on the meds I'm sick of maybe taking 1 to many couple times a month when the pain is worse when I've did too much that day, or to sleep cause pain so bad, then I run out a couple days earlier and go thru withdrawal ! I'm so sick of that, so I have like 10 left and then I'm done! I'm just terrified if withdrawal , 2 days I bout die let alone week or weeks... Does anyone know of anything I can take or do to help? Or anyone's experience of their own please share, and how long it will last, when will I fell better, and be able to so stuff and what helped you during withdrawal ? Thanks a lot

The worst part is the first week, in particular the first four days. Dreading it makes thing worse, stay positive. Take lots of B12, lots of Omega 3, lots of water, tell those close to you to understand if/when you lash out. Usually the nausea and vomiting stops by day 4 or 5. By day 10 things will be much, much better.

Thanks guys, I'm trying not to dread it, I'm just so scared, because 1, I work... 2, I have kids, and I have to take care of them and chores that's has to be done, so so nervous and scared.... But yes I'm so sick and tired of it, dealing with the pain and problems other ways will be so much better, if I can make it..

Yes very positive posts, I feel like I can but I tried not to take my rest last night I fell asleep early at 9 awoke at 12 went to bed was thinking I needed one, well woke up at 3 and I could tell they started, the withdrawals, and I took a half and miraculously I could sleep. That's is so awful that Dr even put you on this knowing some days pain is worse and you may need a extra ... I really hope I can do this, these withdrawals are awful. I just wish they was a easy way, stuff to take from home so I can do my normal routines, idk if I be able to or not.... N the subixone I heard is great but I hate people knowing is it all confident or does your name go on some list of a addict :/ that I know I am but feel like I'm not since the Dr got me in this , and wait till tomorrow or Sunday when I'm in full withdrawals and see how I'm.talking :( lord I dread this... I just want to do it tho!

I just recently went through this same thing with a different med. Omega 3, B 12 and Milk Thistle helped alot. The milk Thistle helps detox your liver and get that mess out of your system. Good luck! You can do it!

The worst of the anxiety, nausea and vomiting are usually over by the 10th day. If you are taking them for legitimate needs, your doctor should have zero problems titrating you down on a good schedule - as a matter of fact he/she is remiss if they do no do so.
I would add to my previous post and say that when you can stay busy, stay as busy as possible. When you are able to sleep, sleep as much as possible. If you have been taking short acting opioids for a chronic condition, you have been treated incorrectly in the first place. After habituation has set in, the effective time period of oxycodone and hydrocodone are no where near before habiutation set in. Instead of 4 to 6 hours, you are most likely fortunate to get 2 to 3 hours of relief from common opioids. If you have been taking pure opiates (morphine, codeine, heroin, etc) it is much the same.
Exercise if you are able, as your natural endorphins will help somewhat. Take lots of B12, Omega 3 and water. Talk to an understanding friend, whenever and wherever necessary. If you are prone to abusing medications, then stay away from benzodiazepines, then stay away from them! If you are having tremendous issues with depression and anxiety, your doctor should have no issues with writing for 4 or 5 Prozac. The half life of Prozac is near a week, and taking 4 or 5 will not result in any sort of dependence, yet fend off a bit of the anxiety and such.
If you go the Suboxone or Subutex route, please do not stay on them for years - even though they are light years better than Methadone. The point is to get off opioids and Suboxone is a very potent opioid albeit with naloxone in it. A decent titration plan is in order with Suboxone as well.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, yes I am on hydrocodone and no they don't work worth a crap for my pain why I take more and run out I tell my Dr this and istead of giving me.something different he ups my dosage! He probably would dose me down but I hate even telling him considering he probably would try and talk me out of it since he just ups them and no they don't help pain they just keep me feeling normal not high normal and still.hurt the pain is eased up but still there considering they have me taking 7 a day! But I would rather do it on my own and get new Dr and not go back, but then again it may be best to go to my next apt which is in Oct. Hopefully then I will.be clean... I thought about getting my refill next week, and doing a taper myself but idk if I would.be strong enough, and I will still suffer withdrawals a few days before I get my refill, so idk if I want to start over by taking them and tapering, of keep going on with the withdrawal :/

First you need to give me all of your pills. You're just prolonging your suffering by weening yourslf off of them. Second, now this is the most important, come to pick, no scratch that. I 'll come and get you and throw crack-a-thon 2012.

Please contact your doctor and ask to be referred to a pain management center - I think there is one in Hickory. Please don't suffer. Keep us posted on how you are doing. I'll try to get more information for you today - but you should contact your dr and let them know what you are going through.

Sounds like you have a dependancy rather than addiction.

Never been thru with draw but have seen a lot of people go thru this. 2 ways would be cold turkey and the second would be weening. Either works ok. Cold turkey you will have withdraws and feel like crap maybe at day 10-14 you will start feeling better. Weening depends on how much your on. But cut the dose down maybe a 1/4 at a time. Taking 7 a day go to 5 a day for a week then 3... you will still have withdraws but not as severe.

The methadone and suboxone or more for addictions so they may not be for you.

If you are only taking 7 hydrocodone per day, you should not have to many issues quitting your medication, unless you have (or a family history of) addiction issues.
Doc is correct above. If you take the medication as prescribed and for pain, it is habituation and dependency rather than addiction. If you are snorting, railing or plugging your pills then you are in a different realm.

If you are a true chronic pain patient, there are legitimate, non-pill mill pain centers. Southeast Pain Care has facilities in Valdese, Hickory, King's Mountain, etc. Please note that these facilities will want to, and in your best health interest, do nerve blocks, trigger point injections, etc.
If your pain is neuropathic, you may be better served by other than narcotic medications, or as an adjunct. There are many very good stronger nsaids on the market. I am partial to diclofenac.

As difficult as is seems at times, a stretch regimen often helps. Exercise in a pool if you can.

Chronic pain is an odious beast. Best wishes on your mission!

Thank you all so much! So far it was 24 hours at 8 this morning since my last HALF of a pill :) and surprisingly I'm.doing ok, idk if this had any help but at church yesterday I prayed hard on this, and asked for help to stop these and to get me thru withdrawals and so far so good, I do fill lil eh as my noses running head kinda Iffy at times but most part feeling ok, I also found a bottle of my prescribed ultrams u had before they put me.on theses like a yr old but I am taking them when I wake up and end of day, which may be helping, but I have went thru withdrawals before and it was horrible, and ultrams nothing helped! So I'm praying and hoping I keep feeling good and I will be free of these pills for good! And just use em as one here and there as a have to case , but rather never touch them.again, and I have tried steroids shots I'm allerigic :/ so I would love tho a different route to help with my pain then opiates, its bad u take something as prescribed and can't go a day without it because you will be deathly ill! Thanks to all of you for helping me and concerns , reading all.of the encouraging words helps a whole whole lot! Thanks again and heresy to 48 hours clean and many more hopefully!
