Yes, I do understand the situation more than many actually. I know Carol Miller and he does what Norton wants behind closed doors. He is also one who is not nearly as qualified as he will tell you he is. He is another one who is eat up with self promotion. He is one of the puppets who tries to stick his nose in far too much of the day to day operations of the Town Hall and the Police Department as if he is the man in charge.

The citizens of Old Fort have been sold out by a few self absorbed opportunists.

I have never heard such poppycock! And I would argue the point that you know anything about Mr. Miller...nothing about his true character, nor that of the Mayor, nor Sue Gibbs. I went to school with Mrs. Gibbs and have known her through the years and you won't find a finer lady than she. Town Hall needs someone to check it out, and if I could have voted in the Town of Old Fort, Carroll would have had my vote...as would Sue Gibbs, and Mayor Norton. Instead of tearing them down with senseless jibberish, take a deep breath and get the facts. Take time to read the financial report and see the facts of the state of affairs that the Town of Old Fort is in.

Are you saying that because something is reported on TV...that makes it a fact? I believee this is the way most of you on this topix thinks. If you read it, hear it on TV, or Myrtle next door says something, then it has to be true. Wake up! You need to get the true facts about the problems in Old Fort. Untrue rumors are running crazy. Where's the truth? Or does anyone even care about truth? Most of the stuff on here is nowhere near the TRUTH.

I am speaking of the truth and you are simply speaking from your heart not your brain.

You do not BUY new equipment while at the same time claiming to be broke. You do not sell out your police force to have second rate coverage by a county agency and give up traffic enforcement.

They may be wonderful people at a church social, but I could care less. What I care about here is how they are treating the town of Old Fort and the Town Hall. They are not capable of running the town and are doing a very poor job of it at the present.

As a property owner and business owner in old fort, having dealt with the mayor, his office, the town hall, and the aldermen...i would totally disagree with your viewpoint. Do you even know Carol Miller? He doesn't vote the way someone tells him to vote-he's definitely his own person.
Yes, I know Caroll Miller...question is....do YOU??????? How many times has he ever gone against Norton on anything? If you check the minutes from the board meetings I think you will see that the answer to that question is...never. Talk is cheap...the board minutes show the ways they have all voted on issues, which paints a clear picture of who isn't afraid to be the stand-out...

Well, North Cove, Nebo and Glenwood don't have police....Once Old Fort is a "community", instead of a town, it will be covered by MCSD like all the other communities.....not saying I agree....just sayin...

Old Fort is classified as a city because they have their own city government.

If Old Fort drops their Police they sould give up their charter also. I don't want to see any sweet heart deals between the County Commissioners and Old Fort. They want Police furnished by the county they need to pay accordingly. They want their cake and eat it to. Tax cutes for their little hole in the wall and let the rest of the county pay their bills. They need to turn the water and sewer over to the county and garbage collection to private providers. Their leadership are either stupid or crazy like a fox.

Another thing for everyone to think about, The fact that if the town gets rid of the police that will void the charter thus leading to everyone in town limits may be required to pay more taxes. Because right now they dont pay city fire tax just county. not saying that would be a bad thing. to be a municipality you have to have both fire and police protection. As far as the county taking it over it is not there job to enforce traffic laws and if they do take it over you want see them in old fort theyll all go and hang out in marion. you better belive the SHP want have a problem with setting in the little speed trap of a town. As far as Wayne Stafford i agree i remember when he was mayor he is one of the only ones the would in a blink of an eye give you the shirt off your back and we would be lucky to have him back in as mayor.
The town is in trouble and we are all yet to hear the truth.

This Old Fort Police deal is highway robbery. The proposal says that Old Fort would pay $150,000.00 per year to pay two officers and a clerical person, fuel and maintenence ?? To cover Old Fort 7-Days per week and 3-shifts per day would be 21-shifts per week or 168 hours times 52 weks per year,8736 hours. Just having one officer on duty at any given time is stupid. The $ 150,000.00 figure is about one fourth of the actual expenses that the county would be taking over. Smoke and mirrows is all that the ignorant politicians of Old Fort are playing with. I hope they will be revealed for what they are. I hope they are not allowed to do our Sheriffs Department this way. I know that the good people of that department would do the best they could, but its simply not fair. I hope the dead beats of Old Fort enjoy their tax cut.

well, you are right about that. stafford would give you the shirt off your back and tell you it was a gift from him. the financial issues in old fort are a result of having a mayor and a board for years that could not be fiscally responsible. stafford is a big part of the problem not the solution.
