Last week Cobia boats closed and laid off 68 people. Now Swift-Galey will close at the end of August, laying off nearly 300.

Most people knew this was coming from Swift Galey. I know someone who left there about a year ago because they said it was going to close soon.

Textiles are leaving the US for Mexico...(Thank you Bill Clinton for NAFTA)

The odd thing is, Nafta was supposed to bring jobs here as well...

I used to work in textiles and the last plant I worked at kept me laid off more than employed

Coates has been slowly closing different departments. C&A isn't C&A anymore, but it has been laying off employees as well.

Thank God the liquor by the drink passed...we're all saved by the business it will bring to Marion...(sarcasm)

Bush, Canada's president and Mexico's president STARTED NAFTA...BUT Clinton could have stopped it. Instead, he made it's passage a major legislative priority in 1993 and it came into effect on January 1, 1994 while Clinton was president. He had every right to alter it or stop it. CLINTON signed NAFTA into law in November of 1993, so he is responsible.

Well said, Whatcha, I remember like it was yesterday, when Clinton had that stupid freak Al Gore go on tv to debate with lunatic, H. Ross Perot about NAFTA. That was where Perot's insane "GIANT SUCKING SOUND" originated. It remains my favoritee moment in history, because it was so funny, adn so obvious that NAFTA ONLY ever benifitte Wal-Mart (from Arkansas-- get it?)
When will the silly Amerikans ever realise that there's only one party?

I guess the one party would be the socialist party for the rich. You can almost measure your freedom by your bank account. The kick in the sack is seeing the youth of this country adopting this entitlements attitude developed from the over use of social programs.
The same social programs established to help who????? Immigrants maybe?

You don't have to go to Mexico, any 3rd world country will do.

We're blaming the wrong people if we think textiles are closing because of NAFTA or any other trade policy. The truth is that the downward pressure from retailers such as W*mart is forcing companies to jump ship for a matter of pennies. Quality, heritage, Made in USA, these all take a backseat to making it cheap. I'm as guilty as anyone when I shop. I look at price.
